don’t think Hurd is the same pitcher he was pre injury

I mean he has 6 starts & about 30ip under his belt.

But his velo is back to what it was. It might take a little longer to hone in his command & such.

27 K’s in 20.1ip during both sessions this offseason says his stuff is playing pretty well

There’s a good bit of melting from some about Cooper “being a starter”.

Im not melting that he is a starter, he just seemed to do really well as a reliever.

I’d bet he’s in the bullpen by the time we travel to College Station.

Which makes sense the way some are explaining the rotation in regards to the Texas game.

It doesn’t seem like you know the roster that well tbh

Are you saying that our relief pitching is better with Cooper being a starter and not a reliever anymore?

Who is first/best out of the pen now?

Cooper is fine but he’s a specialist and not really what I would call a lynch pin

If shores is starting, then you have Floyd-Little-Edwards all capable of throwing 95-97 & devastating hitters on the back end

That’s impossible for 99% of this board to answer. We have quite a few arms we can go to, just have to see who they put in, because most of us have not seen one scrimmage

I am more interested in who develops into end of the year starters and key people out of bullpen. No NC are won in the first month.

I feel as if Cooper is in place of Hurd. Not Shores. Shores may be there to stay provided he produces. Once we're done with the Texas game, I think Hurd slides into the rotation and Cooper goes back to long relief.

100 percent agree and think this is exactly Jay's logic

I did forget about Little.

Almost 24 hours to gametime.

Maybe Hurd is our 4th best starter? His numbers this spring are pretty average…

He had 1 rough outing but his numbers were good otherwise.

“SulphursFinest
He was the only pitcher that would come in and I didn’t have to worry about him throwing strikes.

The rest of the staff was….oof“

Sorry but I disagree. Hilliard threw over 67% strikes.

Isn’t Ackenhausen supposed to be pretty solid?

Hilliard yes, I meant the rest of the staff that’s still here and mainly relievers

I’d rather see Coop coming out of the pen but I ain’t Jay Johnson.

To be fair, over the last two days quite a few people have been predicting this rotation. Hurd will transition into a weekend role following the Tuesday night Texas game.

He was good in spots.

He had one bad outing at the beginning of the year and tired out a little bit at the end. Otherwise he was arguably the most consistently good pitcher on the roster last year and definitely the most consistent returner.

I'm not saying he's a bad pitcher. He's a good middle relief guy, but he doesn't have weekend starter stuff anymore than Blake Money did last year. Now maybe this is a temporary thing and Johnson plans to make adjustments after we play Texas as some have alluded to. I don't know. But if he's a weekend starter when we get into SEC play that's a bit troubling.
