Darn, I thought Cam might be one of the starters next year, or at least our 6th man. If he leaves, we will need 2 more guards. Our only returning guard is Hannibal. Cook is the only other true guard. Wright and Mwani can play guard, but we need true guards.

Yeah, I don't like losing Hayes. I hope that means we have better guys coming in.

I like that Ward announced he is coming back

I agree, thought Hayes was going to stay considering he earned playing time (23 mpg) and took advantage of it for the most part in a serviceable manner with decent shooting and didn't kill us with TO's albeit not really leading as a facilitator much. He was definitely going to lose PG minutes to Cook though, and maybe felt he couldn't compete for more than 20 mpg playing between 2 guard spots if the team brings in both Girard and Stewart while also keeping Hannibal.

Can someone update me on how many spots we currently have open now that Hayes is in the portal? 3?

8 are out and 5 added (Cook, M. Williams, Chest, Wright, Baker) so far. So yes 3 open spots still. Only holdovers at the moment include Fountain, Hannibal, Reed, Wilkinson, and Ward. I think only Ward has publicly stated he is coming back for sure.

Would have much rathered Hayes stay over Hannibal. Also, Hayes would have been better on D than Cook or Girard.

There has been some chatter around Abram to LSU, but does anyone know if he has visited? Same for Tchewa.

I'm gonna say we'll take Girard instead of Abram and Stewart is replacing Hayes.

A starting backcourt of Cook and Girard is, I'll go ahead and say it, pretty explosive from a shot-creation standpoint. They should do a lot to get the offense going.

Whether they can defend anybody is another story. Both of them have sticky fingers and can play the passing lanes; neither are all that good at on-ball defense.

But right now you might be looking at Cook-Girard-Wright-Fountain-Baker, and that's a better starting five than last year. Certainly offensively it is.

After Baker and losing Hayes, we have 3 openings, so we can take Girard, Abram, and another post player.

I'm assuming we're going to take Stewart.

Potentially we'll take both Girard and Abram, but I don't see either of them coming unless they're guaranteed a starting job and we can't do that for both.

Stewart would come without such a guarantee because he's a local kid.

You're right that we have to get a post player. Gotta be a rim protector, too, because we don't have it.

Maybe they can entice Phillips back. He would get us there.

Would love to see Fountain return to (and exceed) his freshman 3pt numbers 38% on 15-39 (8-23, 35% this season )

Abram is not very good. Hope MM only takes him as a body to fill out the roster. Stweart will likely be the best guard on the team next season if he transfers in. No way Girard or Abram should start over him.

Stewart has some impressive offers (or at least interested teams) so if we’re gonna get him lets do this

I think next year will be his last at this point. I just don’t see where things are looking any better
Anything is possible at this point but I would be shocked if he isn't given three or even four years before anything is done. Because of our AD's brilliant negotiating, it would just cost too much to buy out his contract. I don't claim to have any insider information but is there even rich alumni who care enough about basketball to fund a buyout?

Lol.

Based on what? He was 4th in ppg for Ole Miss as a true freshman, started 22 games so he comes with experience and I know he only shot 40% from the field but he did shoot 36% from 3 which is above average and would’ve been 2nd on the team last year….and was a top 150 player out of high school.

Stop posting.

That would make me very happy to be able to recruit him back from the portal. Especially considering the big name programs that reached out to him.
