Obtuse, see you in Le Tour thread in a few weeks?

I'll be there. Have you watched the Tour de France: Unchained series on Netflix? I enjoyed it. I would love to see it do what Drive to Survive did for F1 but that is asking a lot.

Hamilton is an old US watch company that started in the late 1800s they made really fine pocket watches and produced wristwatches up until the late 60's. The name ultimately ended up with Swatch Group in Switzerland. Currently, they make solid watches for a very reasonable price. They make some modern interpretations of classic US Hamilton watches like the American Classic and Ventura (the Elvis watch) lines. They really are now best known for their excellent field watches.

I remember you posting your collection years ago, and at that point I just quit.

Not a hard core cycling enthusiast, but noticed a large part of Le Tour is taking place in a lovely part of the country this year. My daughter (absolutely no pics) is in Lyon studying at University Jean Moulin (an LSU Law study abroad program) and I just came back from a couple of weeks visiting. Had never been to that part of France, would absolutely recommend to anyone going to France.

Quality movement. Who GAF if your brother in law has never heard of it.

He’s a douche bag anyway.

Nobody notices watches except other watch geeks. Some people might notice Rolex but they wouldn't recognize any of the other brands that best Rolex on quality. Get the watch you like. Don't worry about what other people will think, most of them won't give a shite.

I love my Tag Formula 1. It was $1500 and is my daily wear. I have other watches that I mix in for more formal wear, weekends, sports and work; but the Tag is by far the most versatile… until I get my 30 year work anniversary Rolex in 2025

But you know it isn't. Why worry about the other people?

I like my $700 marathon a whole lot. It's a prized possession, hopefully my kid will wear it one day. I enjoy having it.

Didn’t know it even existed until reading the Rouleur article today. Starting it now! And yea pipe dream for a similar series as Drive.. that blew up F1 even more than it was before, but this is at least a start.
Thread relevant now, as mentioned above in my other post, my late pops left me his watch collection. I was more interested in what else was practical at the time. So you better chime in when I post them.
All the mention of Jefferson watches got me perusing and the Khaki Field Auto Chrono is calling my name. That’s as ‘stylish’ I get but that’s beautiful.

That could be said of pretty much every watch brand save Rolex.

I doubt 1 out of maybe 25,000 people would see this as anything other than a Stein Mart special, but it is anything but. I wish for 5 true "grail" watches and this particular Simplicity is one of them and it is the only one of the 5 made in this century.

Nice choice Raymond Weil is one of the few remaining independent watch brands in Switzerland (unless someone bought them when I wasn't looking) and offers good value for money at their standard discounts. The movement is basically a Selita SW200 which is basically a ETA 2824-2 which means it is a good workhorse movement that is easy to service.

I am glad I included some watches that aren't exactly my fancy. I am not a big Roman numeral fan nor a lover of Breguet hands... even on a Breguet despite owning one with both.

Note the number 4 is represented as IIII instead of IV which is called the clockmaker's four or the watchmaker's four. There are numerous stories as to why this is but this Monochrome article covers most of the legends:

Monochrome

My favorite story is the IIII was used in order to not piss off the gods.

It’s kind of funny, I used to want a Dufour but I tried one recently and I did not feel the way that I thought I would feel. I have a KV on the way, and that felt more impressive to me when I visited. Not to say that Dufour is not amazing, but I don’t know, I didn’t feel the way I thought I would.

Personally, if I could get one, I’m taking an RRCCII.
