The interesting thing is both Guidry and Braswell are good pitchers

I dont know man, another year getting bigger and stronger and a proper off season and camp of training?

He is one of those guys that has nasty movement late. I know he is 18 but he never, never looked like a guy out there just trying to get some outs, he can pitch.

rest of your post was spot on, but this is indicating something that it isnt

guidry did not beat JT out and struggled in the spring hitting but was doign much better the last 2-3 weeks of spring. He was moved to pitcher because of the injury. without them, he is just the backup shortstop

Can no one pronounce "Caglianone" correctly? None of the broadcasters could.

This may be why we brought in the South Carolina shortstop.

I would rather he not pitch and play defense if he can hit.

Johnson would never say this out loud and I'm glad things worked out for Thompson in the end in Game 3, but he made every effort to replace him at SS going into this season. He took Pineda from Baylor and Young from Vanderbilt thinking he would get one or both of them. Pineda signing for under $150k in the 12th round was surprising, the Orioles splurging and giving Young over $1m was a shocker in the 17th round.
Then he works Guidry at SS all fall and gives him some AB's and innings in the early spring, while batting Thompson 9th.
He made the decision to move Guidry to relief pitcher for a reason.

Or he simply saw a severe lack of depth in the middle of the infield. For SS and 2nd, the options on our roster were Dugas (who didn't play infield at all last season), Guidry, Thompson, Nippolt, and Merrifield.

Due to injuries. We may never see him pitch again.

You can't replicate that mentality Guidry has on the mound. Dude straight up HATES whomever is in that box. Give me that in the 8th and 9th.

He said several weeks ago that he will play SS & will hit during summer ball. He did not mention pitching.

Guidry only became a pitcher due to injuries to the pitching staff.. other than that he was destined at Shortstop…next baseball season he will be a shortstop unless there’s a lack of arms or injuries..wash, rinse, repeat…

I think it’s a possibility the coaches will let him play SS and pitch next year like Florida did Cag this year.

Here's the thing Cag wasn't a great pitcher. Sure he had off the charts stuff, but he just didn't develop or sustain very well at all.

I wonder if some of that didn't have to do with the fact that he played 1B. I mean he had to think about, practice, play, etc that position in addition to pitching and hitting. Hell, even Ohtani doesn't play a position...he DHs when he isn't pitching.

I just wonder if playing a position may not be a bit much.

Will be interesting to see what they try with Guidry. JJ basically told him in the spring that he couldn’t hit good enough and wasn’t good enough in the field so let’s look at you as a pitcher.

If he is a pitcher, he needs to be a pitcher. If he is a starting middle IF, also... But it can't hurt to keep an emergency arm around, or a pitcher that can field...

I think Jay will bring another experienced middle infielder to go with Braswell. Not to say that Guidry, Nippolt, and the freshmen won't get a shot, but I believe Jay wants to have something solid to lean on.

Some names to monitor: Sam Mongelli, Peyton Chategnier, Braden Montgomery.

I would like to see him become truly great at one position by devoting all of his time there. We don't need two-way players to win.

It is not pronounced how it is spelled. It is pronounced kag-lee-own

I dont see him being a SS for us. 2B and pitcher are his more suitable positions.
