Not sure if you’re serious but you’d be better off moving anywhere else in north Georgia. Louisiana isn’t pretty and it’s not exactly a great place to raise a family if you aren’t from the culture. It’s a different type of ghetto. I’d relocate in Atlanta or look at other cities. Draw a circle from Nashville to Birmingham to Atlanta then Charlotte and Asheville and back over to Nashville. Any major city in that area would be better than anything Louisiana has to offer. I love LSU but frick that state to live in.

Atlanta sucks I agree though. But your wife would hate you if you moved her to Louisiana.

So very quick google search says naw dawg. At least about TN. Lexington though looks fine…so you’re half right? I prefer to think of it as you’re half wrong.

You had me at Dodge Charger bro.

If you are flush, Fairhope, Alabama is the bomb. Then I would go Huntsville in Alabama. You could go Mountainbrook if you love new money.

In Mississippi, Ocean Springs, Bay St Louis, on the coast, Oxford in the North, Hattiesburg is ok.

I hate to say this but google lowest number of people on free lunch program at public school and keep minority population under 15% and you are golden.

So Knoxville has a higher crime rate than all the small towns across America?

No shite.

Compare that to all the "cities" and get back to me.

Or just stop relying on neighborhood scout's quick google snippet.

ETA: All the cities in NC and FL give the same bullshite lines about crime rates.

With a crime rate of 34 per one thousand residents, Jacksonville has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 30.

quote:

Orlando has a violent crime (murder, rape, robbery, assault) rate of 8.28 per 1,000 residents. This is higher than the national average for violent crimes. Keep in mind that these numbers of violent crimes include the dangerous neighborhoods in Orlando that are not visited by most tourists.

quote:

According to NeighborhoodScout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of one of these crimes in Tampa is one in 178. NeighborhoodScout's analysis also reveals that Tampa's rate for property crime is 16 per one thousand population.

All just super quick pulls from google. Apparently even shitty arse Jacksonville is safer than cities in TN (number per 1,000).

Now make a comment that this data isn’t right and xyz has more accurate data to make yourself feel better when in the end, that the majority of large southern cities have shitty crime on a high level. Some states are better than others. Just not TN. Especially when you’re trying to throw a city away because it borders Arkansas (which doesn’t change the state it’s in).

And Mississippi. Don't forget to shite on Mississippi.

No one denies that Memphis is a shithole. I would never recommend anyone move there. It's on the same trajectory as BR and NOLA.

If you are still considering after asking the OT who despises BR, NOLA, and Louisiana as a whole, then hats off.

If looking for serious advice - as others have mentioned, the Northshore offers the country club aspect and quick access to the Lake and is safer. They’ll be playing catch-up on the traffic situation due to population influx for years to come. You’ll be roughly an hour from the airport.

In Metairie, Old Metairie or Lakeview are the premier neighborhoods. Old Metairie is tucked away and safe. Lakeview deals with crime spilling over from the hood since it’s a known commodity. In Metairie, as someone mentioned, North of West Esplanade is all nice. Your kid would have to go to private school in any instance, which is the norm here for middle class and up. Looking anywhere from 15-25 mins from the airport for any of those.

BR has plenty of good ducked off, pocket communities - if you’re around Highland/I10 or south you could make it to the airport in about an hour.

I thought collectively we decided it was no longer a state, just a landmass between Mobile and New Orleans?

You might as well move to Jackson, MS. That's what this area is trending towards in the next 10-15 years. Wife and I have had serious discussions on how much longer we're gonna stay here, and honestly, I don't hate it here. I just don't want my kids putting down roots here. I'm a bit worried about what it could potentially become. It's not all demographics, though. Not directly. I'm worried about how much worse it'll get politics wise, infrastructure, business climate, etc. Indirectly affected by demographics of course, black Democrats are multiplying faster than their Republican counterparts, and there's absolutely no hope with the white liberal crowd. Although small, they are probably the largest scourge on this area, because they have the money to fund the hopeless Democrats running for office. As soon as we have Mayor Gary Chambers, I'm putting my house up for sale and never looking back.

So many knee jerk responses.

If you can afford it, move to Old Metairie or Country Club Gardens just into Orleans. Join the Metairie CC. Its not hard. Or if you are a boater, the Southern Yacht Club. Send your kids to Country Day. It's a fine life and you won't see anything like you are complaining about in Buckhead. It costs money, but if you are coming from Buckhead it might seem a bargain. If you want to spend less on schools, St. Catherine's, Metairie Academy and Haynes are solid options.

Y’all are gonna laugh- but I have a friend who works for BASF.

Work brings him to Geismar regularly.

Every single time he comes- and he is from a state we would say has their stuff together- “Man, I need to get my next assignment here- the people are cool, the food is badass, the houses are all nice, and the outdoor activities”

In the end, all of us are tired of LaToya and her ilks BS- and the reputation that it brings.

But, if you take 80-90% of Ascension, Assumption, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Pointe Coupee, Baton Rouge, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Livingston, The Felicianas, and a couple more- I can see how people would think we actually live in an an attractive place.
