I understand the reference to Animal House and am well aware that the Germans did not bomb Pearl Harbor but don’t understand why that refers to something that has already been said. Please explain. Thanks.

How do you understand all of that but can’t connect when someone posts something that could be/is old news?
Something like Skenes first appearance in a Pirates uniform has been posted a million times. That is old news.
Old news=Germans. Like when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

I do not understand "Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" as old news unless you actually believe that the Germans did bomb Peral Harbor.

If you believe that it was Germany and mention of the Germans is "old news" then you should log off and take a History class.

It’s separate things which have been linked over time and become a well known saying joke.
You are aware of animal house and the quote. That takes care of the first part of the link.
At some point someone posted a news headline which has already been covered and everyone had already seen. The responder replied that it was old news and everyone had already seen the headline for. Pearl Harbor being one of the major headlines is the century was referenced and the joke about the Germans bombing it as a call back to animal house.
It was then used and referenced all the time with the short hand of “Germans” as a response to peoples posts, even if they were only a minute behind another post about it. Or sometimes people would work the word German, change the location of the headline to Germany or many other ways of saying the headline is old.
