It’s reporting on old news, things that everyone knows already happened, like when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor (ironically stated as the Japanese actually bombed Pearl Harbor).
The original ironic reference to Germans bombing Pearl Harbor was from John Belushi’s character, Bluto, in the 1978 comedy, Animal House.
It is in essence Boomer Humor.
