We have Grambling and MS state included in that. Arkansas isn’t a world beater either. We gave up over 150 yards rushing and nearly 6 yards a carry to Grambling. There’s no silver lining for this defense.

It’s not the talent. We have more talent than at least 75% of the teams in the country. It is all on coaching. We were terrible on 3rd downs last year and now it seems everyone knows exactly how to attack us in House’s second year.

On defense we really don’t. What players not named Wingo, Perkins, Weeks, or Jefferson have proven to be talented?

Do you really think that this is just the best we can do with the talent that we have on defense?

It’s coaching and not talent if it is due to tackling basics

The evidence is piling up. And I’m as pie in the sky as you can get.

I disagree. I acknowledge the defense has a ceiling because the talent is lacking in areas. But when our see our d-line line up 2 yards off the ball, secondary looking confused, refusing to bring pressure and satisfied to play off the receivers and still getting burned constantly, I put a lot of that on the coaches. Those coaches are getting paid a lot of money to get the best out of the players and they are failing.

we can definitely do better but we have a talent issue too.

I agree. And I also agree the outrage toward the coaches is warranted too

Hope Kelly is aware of this. Based on today's PC seems there is nothing wrong with scheme just missed tackles.

Does anyone remember what defense was ranked before ole miss game?

I am sure it wasn’t good, but MSU and Grambling probably kept yards per game & points allowed per game down some being half the totals.

I was just wondering how far they fell due to Ole Miss game.

everyone is shocked when we do not have a good defense. People are just not realistic.
Sure. Giving up 711 yards of offense is completely realistic and should have been the expectation for everyone.

Tell me where I said that. I’m not letting House off the hook. His scheme has clearly not been working with this group. But to say we have a bunch of talent that’s being misused is pretty stupid. Both things are true.

It sounded like you were making excuses for the coaches. Like we shouldn’t be surprised that we’re ranked 117 or whatever because that’s what we should expect with the lack of talent on the defense. And anyone expected better is just being unrealistic.

If that’s what you’re interpreting from my posts then I can’t help you. My entire point is you can’t boil our failures down to one thing.

1. Our coaches have not done their job well enough this year.
2. We have at best mediocre talent on defense and very little depth.

Both things are true. Trying to make it all about one or the other is simpleton thinking.

I responded to the wrong person. I agree, with a defense this bad that you can’t point to just one thing. Coaching, scheme, and players are all at fault.

This is by far the most over used concept on this board. Bad tackling does not equal bad coaching.
