Texas 2019 is the best opener LSU has had in its history and here's why.

This is relevant to 2023, I swear
I was thinking about the conversation about why we shouldn't schedule top ten teams in openers.
I think that is fricking stupid. And Texas 2019 proves it.
That Texas game was probably the most important game of the year.
If you rewatch, Texas actually went blow for blow the whole way.
And they were an EXTREMELY close onside away from putting that game into OT.
The teams were evenly matched all game.
HOWEVER
There are some major plays within that game.
#1) The defense was punched in the mouth early. Texas dropped a wide open sure TD. It was jarring. Tigers get the ball back and Burrow throws an immediate interception about 6-7 yards out from their endzone. Defense holds on 4th down. Incredible stop by the way.
That play alone generated enough momentum to win a fricking natty.
#2) 3rd and 17. The kind of moment only a top ten matchup could generate. Many point to that as Burrows heisman moment, and I am one of those people.
A play like that in front of millions of people ? All of Burrows cocky attitude, all the swagger that season? None of that happens without that 3rd and 17. Dude moved into the pocket and threw a dart in the face of a blitzing safety. Wild.
LSU gained several key experiences in that game that simply can't be gained against a cupcake team.
LSU learned everything from that Texas team. Learned how to rally after a bad play, learned their QB is a killer who won't miss, learned that the WRs were elite, learned that they werent going to lose. How could you lose with plays like that?
I genuinely believe the winner of that game wins the natty.
One already did.
But can you honestly say that if Ehlinger had converted that 3rd and 17 , and then won the game..that he wouldn't have been the one to dominate CFB? The confidence something like generates is unfathomable.
The snowball didn't roll down the hill and get bigger, LSU flew down that bitch with a snowmobile. Because of those plays.
People underrate Texas that year, LSU just straight killed their season out of the gate tbh. They were every bit as good as us game 1.
You can make the argument that LSU still goes undefeated after a loss there, but I don't think it'd be that easy.
In conclusion, if you think LSU should start the game with fricking Georgia Southern because you're afraid of 0-1, you're fricking stupid. Sure, you can lose, but winning can change everything. Look at FSU this year. We springboarded them.

Oregon 2011 was the best opener.

Great post, except for the fact that Texas wasn’t LSUs opening game in 2019.
In fact, it was Georgia Southern, who LSU beat 55-3.

That wasn’t the opening game though
You even reference our game 1 opponent, Ga Southern

Are you on some alternate timeline? They started the season against Georgia Southern, offense looked completely different and the hype train started.

You spent all that time to write that whole elaborate post just to prove the exact opposite of what you were trying to prove.

Kind of ironic - you actually proved the point that there is no reason to open up with top 10 team. In 3/4 years no-one will remember when the game was played

Argues we shouldn't open with teams like Georgia Southern using our greatest system ever which opened with ... Georgia Southern.
Never change tRant ... never change.

Never opened with Texas

The risk outweighs the reward but money rules all

Our fans always get lost in the fact our opponent opens up with the same huge matchup.
I like what BK is doing, but his slow starts to the season are his biggest concern and reason to be pissed. Dude didn’t know until week 5 that we weren’t ready to form tackle.
With all the drama around his divorce this off-season I just don’t think he’s paid much attention until shite gets real. Kelly is paid too much to look bewildered when Florida state kicks our arse and he bluntly tells us he thought it was going to be an easy win? Then he mentioned this week we should have had a spy on Milroe? What the frick?

And we’d have beaten 2016 Wisconsin if les didn’t want to stick a middle finger to all of us and not change a thing. It takes a special loser like les miles to trot into Green Bay with that garbage arse gameplan.
It’s less about the opponent and more the fact our coaching has been awful. And I say that as a fan of Kelly. The slow starts have got to stop
