With House staying is he interested? I understand Steeples is gone but defense was mainly scheme oriented issues. House is a liability for any CB

I’ll preface by saying that I hope House is moving on, however that works out. I don’t think his complex read and react scheme is a great fit for college and will always have inconsistent results in the NIL and Portal Era.

However, he did put together a functional defense in 2022 because the staff prioritized bringing in experienced players in the portal. We also had some key veteran holdovers like BJ, Roy and Baskerville.

JBC had a ton of experience under a couple of good DCs. Gardner had had a lot of starting experience. This one can’t possibly be overstated- they got two guys in Brooks and Foucha who not only had SEC experience, but played in an even more zone-heavy scheme under Odom at Arkansas. They stepped in ready to play in this kind of scheme.

I understand what the staff was trying to do last year. After losing 3 of their portal guys after 2022, 1 of whom could have returned, they decided to prioritize younger portal players with multiple seasons left to play. Of course, that also meant they were less experienced. Unfortunately, only one of them had significant experience playing zone, and he was out before the season started. I get them wanting to head off another year of revolving door, but less experienced players have had trouble in this system pretty much across the board.

My point is simple- there’s no reason that an experienced CB would be scared away by House if he stays. There’s obviously plenty of playing time to be had and he put two CBs into the previous draft. A seasoned player with only one year left to play is going to be better equipped to be successful playing in this scheme than a bunch of younger guys.

Again, I hope House is gone, but the blanket statements don’t hold up when you look at both seasons and the kind of player that Richardson is.

Believe he was at Oregon a few days ago or is still visiting. Another Miss State player, a safety, Corey Ellington is visiting Oregon as well. Might be a package deal.
