Does anyone else find Emily Blunt’s character extremely annoying? She is bitching constantly about the job. You volunteered for this lady. Take your orders and do your fricking job.

Her character is necessary so we can have the whole debate.

I thought Daniel Kaluuyas character was a better though.

The whole point is she didn't know what she signed for and how real shite was. Can't really convey that if she's just following the orders.

After watching the movie, her character wasn’t memorable enough to complain about it for me.

Not sure you understood the movie?

She’s not in the military, she’s in the FBI and operating in a legally and morally grey area at best. There was no “this is what you signed up for”. She’s intentionally kept in the dark.

That was such a good movie. And they really dropped the ball with the second one.

Villeneuve is just an awesome filmaker. I watched Enemy (2013, Jake Gyllenhaal) last week and loved it. Of course then there's Prisoners, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and Dune.

In his hands, there is pretty much zero chance that Dune Part Two won't be fantastic. It's hard to say that about just about any other modern director.

i kept hoping at every chance that someone, anyone, would shoot her to end her from being in the movie longer.

she went out of her way to be a damn bitch unwilling to do what the job needs to be done.

its like she thought she was working for the public defenders office or something.

Disagree. Sicario works because, among other reasons, it forces us to ask which way we think is best to confront such ruthless brutality. It's a psychological thriller (vs Soldado, which while still very good, is straight thriller; nobody in Soldado bothers to ask "what the frick are we doing?" like Kate in Sicario).

And whose orders was she supposed to take? "I'm not authorized to take orders from Alejandro" makes it pretty clear that she respects the chain of command. She has a code and she's covering her own arse as best she can. Hard to do against Delta Force operators and CIA spooks who only reveal at the last minute that her only use was to legitimize the operation.

And in the hands of a lesser actor, it could've fallen flat. But Emily Blunt is a pretty convincing hardass. She strikes the perfect balance between someone who's very competent at her job and someone who's still highly vulnerable being so far down the rabbit hole.

10/10 movie for me at any rate. Villenueve, Johannsson, Deakins, Sheridan--doesn't get much better than that.

Will there ever be a 3rd Sicario? The final scene in 2 practically begs for one.

I loved the movie.. It keeps you on the edge the entire time.

I still don't think I get the full message of the dead bodies in walls. They mentioned hostages.. What exactly was this about? Can someone explain it to an idiot?

You do realize she’s an actress and actresses have to act based on their role of a particular character

the thing that would have made this movie really unpredictable is if she would have really shot him in the end and not just threaten only to back down

One of the central themes of the movie is the question about whether it's ok to fight on the terms of an evil enemy.

The cartels are violent, lawless and evil. Blunt's character wants to fight them.

As she learns about how we're fighting them, she realizes we are also doing violent and lawless stuff. So she reacts, and that fleshes out the question: can you go too far fighting fire with fire and become like the evil you're fighting?

Sicario is a great movie in part because it presents the question without easy answers and lets the viewer decide. Some viewers may say yes, you have to do what you have to do. Some viewers might say it just adds more violence to an unwinnable war.

Blunt's character is good and necessary because she highlights the points where things might be going too far and makes the viewer consider them.

That’s a very strange reaction, imo.
Blunt is good in that movie. The character makes sense for the story.
She’s not a robot.
