Documentaries RE: The Louisiana Serial Killers

I have seen some one off episodes on some crime shows here and there. But does anyone know if there is a specific dedicated documentary that looks into the timeframe that McGillis and Lee were both active in BTR?
I get that it has been a spiraling crime issue there for awhile, but to have two active killers in a town that size, working within close timeframes, is absolutely mind boggling.
In my old life I knew some baws who worked on those cases, and the behind the curtain shite regarding the politics, rivalries and machinations of the involved agencies/ people was wild.
If there is a doc or book that focuses specifically on that area in that time frame I’d love to see it.

One of the comments on this video POTUS recommended says that there were actually 3 active serials in BTR in close time frames. Guillery? I will look it up after I finish watching but that CAN’T be right? Three? What’s the pop there 750-800? That’s fricking insane.

I don't know how many people here were in BR during this time, but I remember how Gainesville was during those murders back around 1990. It was nuts. Police were everywhere, flying around town at all hours of the night. It was crazy.

With the sheer number of people that "disappear" every year, I think that there are well over 75 active serial killers in the US at a time. Random murders are hard AF to solve, and there is no national database of unsolved murders.

75 is a lowball number if we truly consider it. Also depends on what your definition of serial killer is. Hoods around the US can undoubtedly comprise 75 with ease. But most don't count those.

There was a two episode special or something that came on the Oxygen network in 2022 or so entitled “Serial Killer Capital: Baton Rouge.” It’s currently streaming on Peacock.

I remember a detective saying they had known of the existence of SK's in BR for years. They had hidden it from the public so there wouldn't be outside pressure to solve it.
Also, the shitty way they held press conferences, once they let the public know, is taught in CJ classes as how not to treat the public.

Butchers on the bayou. It was on a&e but can be found on Hulu. Its about Derrick todd Lee and the other serial killer that was running around Baton rouge, at the same time.

There are two separate books about Lee and Gillis that are pretty detailed. Blood Bath and Dismembered. Both written by Susan Mustafa and others. They also mention the possibility of a third serial killer in BTR at that time because Lee and Gillis had very distinct MO’s. There were other murders that did not fit them.

I was out of college by the time DTL was committing the murders around LSU but I still lived around there.
I drove a white truck too which had been leaked to the press so I got a lot of stares at red lights. Interesting times.

I knew a guy who was detained and brought in for questioning. He was driving a white truck that he parked on the roadside and someone reported him to the police. He was out in a field picking mushrooms during the height of the search for DTL.

The crazy part is that many of us believe there was a 3rd operating and overlapping during the same time period. We all know, that if they could pin all the dead hookers in NBR to these two, they would. I want to say they’ve got one or two that may be attributable to one of them but not all of them.
