I don’t think Meta was one of the “go woke, go broke” companies.
Could be wrong, but I thought it was simply a situation of young people aren’t using Facebook anymore and it will go the way of MySpace.
They have instagram, but it does surprise me that they are doing that well.

I don’t realize that Facebook was expensive? I’d bet 50% of the people that live on the street in the USA have a Facebook account from before they were an addict, or that their family member set up with them when they were on their meds to keep in touch, etc.
