how fricking stupid are you?

if thats the case(they work for hourly wage not salary) then why does the average union electrician in ohio make 69,185? thats the median and thats union. top 10% median is less than 90k

HVAC- $69,485
Plumbers- $ 53,185
Welders- $54,731, top 10% -$85,562
Construction- wtf does this even mean

so if they can walk through the door and name salary....why dont the guys above?

tell you what, im a pipe fitter, multiple nicets and have a degree in engineering with my pmp.....ill come work for you right now for $400k. lmk

Registered nurse, or nurse practitioner.

I’m an RN and I grossed 150k last year due to staffing incentives/bonuses.

Could do the same working less hours as an N.P.

I think Psych N.P.’s are starting at 160k gross up here.

maybe but understand again...you are the outlier. Across the nation an RN only makes $65k and that top 10% only make around 95k

understand due to shortages and location you are an outlier. Same with most engineers in South Louisiana and houston area. we are overpaid and over valued because of the Petrochem industry. Especially chemicals who routinely make 40-50% more than the median in the US.

so not someone in the trades...a business owner. now do you think it would be good for a business owner to have some skills in actual business, management, finance etc?

I don't know why this is so hard for you to understand:

Work for someone for a few years to learn.

Start working for yourself.

Hire on people to work for you as you grow and do not have the time to service all of your clients.

Many people follow this path, including people I know, most being men with various levels of education. Some I hired for work years ago when they worked for someone else. You do not need a degree to figure it out.

They are still in the trades, they never left.

Hope this helps.

I think IT is the obvious answer. Engineering, nursing, physical therapy.........easy fields to find good employment anywhere in the country.

Bro you just described something 95%+ of tradeworkers cannot do, and you're acting like we don't understand.

And that's not an insult. There are plenty of doctors, lawyers, etc. who can't run their own business, either.

Where are you getting that number from for the average? It's almost $20k off

Downvoters don't have google I guess

The whole point of my OP was about scaling up within a trade being a great option, so of course I am going to talk about that. I never said that doing so is a viable path for the majority.

There is more engineering work on the Gulf and East coasts than people to perform the work. To compound the issue/opportunity, the boomers are finally retiring and leaving a chasm of upper and mid level management jobs to be filled by increasingly younger staff.

That is a great option only for those with the capability of being a businessman. The trade part is wholly irrelevant.

In fact, if you're capable of building that and hustling as a business owner, there are much better options for product than trade shops, both in terms of risk and margin.

So it's a great option for the 1%, like literally anything else other than teaching and similar salaried government jobs.

You're building up a strawman at this point. Surely you can't be that bored.

wut

I'm not recreating your argument. I'm saying it's worthless and showing how with the general applicability of it.

Nobody is arguing you can't build a successful business with trade output as your product.

What is so hard for you to understand that about 2% of people in the trades are capable of that. And not everyone can open a business and run a business. Being in a trade and owning a business that does trades is not the same thing

First few sites on google show $85kish to be the average for an RN nationally. LA is closer to $70k.

An RN can make very good money getting away from staff bedside positions. My wife is making well above the averages and she's not even 5 years into her nursing career. Doesn't even work full 8 hour days right now
