Need recommendations for a mountain vacation trip

I need some help on suggesting a good location for a mountain vacation trip for anniversary. it would be just me and wife, leaving the kids behind, probably late summer early fall. Really looking for a blend of places to shop and eat and also outdoor activities. We live in NC, so have done smokies and all mountains in western NC and Eastern TN.
We've been to Jackson and Yellowstone before and that is kind of similar situation that I was looking for. Thinking about Montana and I've read lots of trip reviews on here, but not sure if there is enough "town" stuff to do.

Fly into Seattle and visit the north cascades and Olympic national park. That was one of my favorite trips I’ve taken.

Willing to fly to Oregon? We loved Bend and staying at the Sun River Resort! Maybe 1 1/2 hour drive to Crater Lake, one of the most amazing scenes in the world.
Maybe Chateau Lake Louise? Doesn't get more beautiful than that. We stayed there and loved it. Or nearby Moraine Lake Lodge. Either is maybe 2 1/2 hours from Calgary.
Ventana Inn in Big Sur. We didn't stay there, but in an AirBnB in Monterrey and drove down there through Carmel. Beautiful!

That place looks interesting, surprisingly affordable compared to what you get based on the website/pictures.
Other than Crater Lake what would be some of your recommendations around Bend?
Looks close to their wine region.

Glacier NP would work but it’s too late to book for the fall unless you don’t get a room in the Park. I’m not sure what you’re looking for town wise. For an active city scene the Colorado ski towns might be better.

Bend has a good food/beer scene. Some nice choices. Great hiking outside of the city. That resort has golf, kayaking, swimming pools, miles of bike trails.

New Hampshire (or even Vermont). You can fly into Boston and rent a car.

Bend is fun on its own. Take an afternoon and float the Deschutes River in an inner tube. Smith Rock and Cove Palisades are close by for hiking, as well.
The Oregon coast is gorgeous if you want to spend a day or two there. Totally different vibe from what you get on the beaches in the southeast.
Head north to the Columbia River Gorge for scenic Mt Hood and windsurfing in Hood River, as well as tons of brewery and winery options.

Aspen is what you want. Town has all the eating/shopping stuff then go see the Maroon Bells and Independence Pass, plenty of hikes around both.
You could fish the Roaring Fork.
Plan 3rd week of September and you can see the aspen trees turning colors.
All kinds of cool places along the Valley also.

Southwest Colorado is where it’s at.
Between Telluride, Durango and Ouray you have a ton to do and see

100% do Glacier. Book a cabin in the Columbia Falls area which is right in between Whitefish and the park.

Tons to do in Bend. We spend a good chunk of the summer there every year. Can go rafting, fishing, hiking, tons of mountains to explore, lava flows, old volcano craters. Food is great. Lodging during the summer is relatively affordable.
You can fly directly into Redmond from Denver or any of the major west coast cities, but the drive from Portland is beautiful too. If you wanted to do wine country, could fly into Portland and hit it on the drive to Bend on the southern route.
I'd suggest June and July are best to try to avoid the risk of forest fire smoke.
Smith Rock is one of the hidden gems of the area and one of the best climbing spots in the world and only 30 mins away.

With all the talk about the outdoor activities, let's not forget that the town of Bend has a lot of great restaurants, breweries, music venues, shops, and parks. It is very scenic and walkable.
