yea if you cant play the 10s while they walk up, dont play it.

the apps now have it to where its only 10s max so usually not bad

and yea sucks when someone on the other field is blasting while the kids are trying to pitch

Yeah, I am all for competition, but if we run up against em I may be praying for a slight head cold or something, maybe poison ivy on his throwing hand?

If my kid reads this, I am just kidding man, you got this!

jesus fricking christ

cooperstown alone is crazy expensive. thats why we arent going. dumb how much they charge and then shitty dorms and kids have to stay with coaches.

the team sosa and Central florida teams we played in PF last year had kids from all over like that. kids from DR, PR, CUba etc. was pretty crazy. we roll with out 11 kids from lake charles we did well though and pelicans went on crazy run to win whole thing.

Yeah after of a couple of these type trips I can say that staying at the dorms is a 100% no go. They look like concentration camps, just Coaches with hollow eyes and kids in mismatched socks sitting outside the cells.

That was probably the biggest early red flag.

6U ring ceremony did it for me.

I get the travel aspect. I played competitive softball as an adult and traveled the country, it was a blast.

But the self important aspect of youth travel sports is cringe-worthy.

A lot has changed in just 10 years. Rec ball is worlds different from when I was helping out with my nephew a few years ago to seeing it now

In metro Atlanta there are rec leagues that are big enough to do it right. When there are 300 kids coming out for 8U or 10U they split the league to about 40% AL and 60% NL. Most AL teams could win A and be competitive in AA travel. The NL is the first timer / babysitting type league. The competition good and equal. Having a 10 year old throwing 50 to a kid who can barely catch is not an issue.

The smaller leagues still have that problem and it drivers better players from smaller leagues to the larger ones.

what should the winner of the tourney get?

i personally am good with rings through 8u. at that point, nice tshirts would be much better

rings are a waste. cool for the little kid or cool the first time....but for some reason the moms love them. fricking stupid.

2d used to do t-shirts but the moms flipped their shite.

Yeah Cooperstown wasnt cheap, especially the parents have to rent houses, airfare for the kid, spouses and siblings....meals, alcohol, then the trip to NYC or Boston after the week is over to sight see and catch the Red Sox or Mets and Yankees.....it's wasnt a cheap trip thats for sure

The DR, PR and Cuba was just my son and I, it wasnt that bad

the first year of Select serues was awesome. Play your three or four games, keep a season long record. Award winner at end of season. Moms lost it that there wasn’t a winner each weekend.

some are still like that. still play 4 pool play games and some tournaments its top 4 in a bracket or 2 pools and each pool winner plays for ship

but no 7-8 games total. its limited to 5 most of the time, 2 + 2 + 1. some times its 2 pool and top 4 play bracket style and bottom plays 2 constellation games.

thats why i like it so much. season long standings, season long stats, play teams from all over the state, travel is somewhat limited. add in the 2d nit, the usssa elite ivitational, and a pg nit and you have a great schedule.

I agree, enjoyed the Select Series, but see zero need for the bracket ending. Always had a real strong team, so you go out on Saturday and have another I liked being able to go best on best and not have a concern about saving anything for a potential extra game...and I didnt like playing the extra bracket game against two good teams that used better pitching on Saturday.

I like when its 2 pools or 4 pools and winners of the pools play. usually means the best teams play off. I also love, like you, no sluffing off cause all games matter the same. especially in the standings.

I bet . Sounds like some one was set up because of delusional parents . I was a short stop until 9th grade then my new coach put me on first base for the next 4 years . I was somewhat delusional myself . Told my coach I made all stars 4 straight years at shortstop . He laughed he said well you’re too slow to play shortstop for me and hey all star that’s a softball glove you’re using so you need a first baseman glove . It was humbling and funny but I stuck with it . Had a pretty good 4 years a first . I’m glad I was able to understand to concept of playing as a team instead of individual.

na apparently not. you are not making a team like catholic, west monroe, barbe, jesuit etc etc by playing aa ball. aa ball here is not good after age 10. gets really bad after 12, like really bad. the majors kids will be throwing 58-65 at 10, 60-70 at 11u, 68-75 at 12, 75+ at 13 where the AA kids may still be throwing 55 or below at 12u

So I take it your belief is that HS ball in LA is just on another level than OK. Owasso, Carl Albert, Deer Creek, Bixby, etc routinely go out of state and compete and are plenty successful.

Most of the guys on those teams were Majors and AAA players but not all. There are a good number of AA who do too. Also, being on a AA team doesn't preclude you from playing against AAA and Majors teams, just mainly precludes you from winning at a high clip.
