re: If you didn't have your wife (or don't have one) would you be happy being a loner?

There are very few people on this earth that will truly love you, if you’re lucky. Your parents, your kids, your wife, and maybe a handful of friends and other family members. Without a wife and kids, you’re severely diminishing that potential.
You’re making a ton of assumptions here. Subjective perceptions, societal norms, blah blah.
Many people have some or all of those relationships without real love. Or worse with stress, pain and toxicity, a lifetime dose of it.
Everyone’s entitled to their own peace and love, and hopefully find the version of love they’re happy with.
As long as it’s not gross or perverted like in California.

Single/divorced with grown kids. Im perfectly happy alone whether working, at the fishin condo or the hunting camp. But I do have a GF a half hour away, enjoy time together and would miss her if that ended. Space is good, but togetherness is important.
If totally alone, I would be searching...

Been single for 7 years now.
I was married before that.
Being single is a thousand times better than being married. I will never get remarried

I was single for a few years after a divorce. Didn't really try the hermit thing, but I did not enjoy being alone as much as I thought I would.

Having experienced how awesome it is to be married and have kids, I would hate it.
But if I wasn’t married by now I’d probably be a loner. Especially as I get older because I like people less everyday.

No one would connect the dots unless you and tn told the OT. IDK, maybe in this case, murder would not be the answer....

Being married is hard.
Like really hard.
I’ll just leave it at that.
Don’t get in hurry young bucks

Divorced here. Absolutely fine with it. I have two kids (12 & 14) that are my #1 priority. By far. Since I have joint custody, and see them week on/off, not many women understand or care for the fact that they come first. That's non-questionable. For example, I was dating this one, who is a single mom, who got upset that I wouldn't get a baby sitter (kids were younger then) on the week I had them. So, I am just fine without.

I have a great wife and if something ever happens to her I will be a loner

Depends on the timing. I could do it if I never married and had a family. Couldn’t do it now. My wife nags me and tells me I need to remarry if something happens to her. I tell her I never would but omit the reason being that I couldn’t deal with a woman being in my business 24/7 again.

Getting drunk or high is lame too

I'm now alone and moved out in the sticks on 10 acres of land for the past year.
Loving it right now. I do talk to myself more, but I'm my own best friend.

Hell yes I would be. I would take the float, fricks or fly idea and rent it instead of buying it because I could not tolerate a woman between the age of 45 and 65 and all of their idiocy who I haven't known since I was 21. Luckily my wife tolerates me so until she can no longer do so I am good to go but when she does kick my arse to the curb (I been expecting it for 38 years) I am not dating or being in any kind of relationship with an old assed woman who is fricked in the head politically, is religious or a drunk. Given there probably ain't many interested in me anymore than I am in them we will all be in total agreement. Its easy to get laid in the US with enough money and not have to pretend to be interested in anything other than sex. I can't imagine having a conversation beyond work with a woman my age...and doing so with any younger than me is even more unthinkable. Hell no, I would be perfectly content.

I have a wife and a 2 kids. I can't stand being away from them for any more than a few days. I would not get involved with another woman though on a dare...frick that. I am 59 so 50-70 would be in my round house....maybe 45....and women in that age group are batshit crazy with politics or religion and worse know nothing at all about either one. I am beyond certain they feel the same way about me so no one is missing out on anything in life. The only reason I would interact with a woman is to get laid and that is all too easy to do if you have the money...if it floats, fricks or flies and all that you know....

Would need a maid and a hooker then I’d be fine
Preach. High end hookers are far less expensive in the long run than dating similar non-professionals and you can sample from the variety pack...and you do not have to tolerate their bullshite to get laid. My wife is my best friend in the world, thank the christ, but having a relationship with a woman my age other than her sounds like it'd be as fun as having a dental appointment and an urology appointment simultaneously on a Spirit Airlines flight....I have 2 kids I have a good relationship with so I would not be "alone" unless something happened to them god forbid...as long as all 3 of them outlive me I am good...I am selfish that way and want to leave this rock before any of them.
