A juvenile bottlenose dolphin was found shot to death with bullets lodged in its brain, spinal cord and heart and now authorities are offering a handsome reward for information on who committed the gruesome act.

Why is this anymore gruesome than shooting say, an armadillo? I get it, it isn't a game animal, they are mammals, and humans have an irrational attachment to some animals over others.

But tell that to the armadillo shaking his head while watching the dolphin autopsy.

I can't tell you the justification into why the government views the two differently but I can tell you why I do.

There's some reverence given to animals that show intelligence and dolphins are sorta up there with primates for me. Armadillos on the other hand carry leprosy, and have fooled me several times on a deer stand. Expecting a monster deer and getting a tiny little leaf rustling armored bastard is disappointing as shite.

Intelligence. They're very smart mammals, similar to a chimp. I don't want to kill shoot chimps either. In fact, I think science believes dolphins are the second smartest animal on Earth to humans. That is a level of evolution I feel should be protected more than say, an armadillo's.
