I find Hitler's persona fascinating. How did he compel so many people to commit genocide. I know he was one of the leaders, but he is credited for carrying out the genocide. I can't imagine someone consuming me to where I felt that a whole group of people are subhuman based on anything outside of their actions.

Read ordinary men, reserve police battalion 101.

For some, it is as simple as being told do it or you die.

For others, it’s the thought of if I don’t do it my buddy will have to kill my share.

You would be amazed at just how normal many of those who participated were. We humans are a weird bunch and the morals we hold in theory turn out to not hold water when the time comes to pull the trigger.

I wonder what would have happened if we saved the death camp prisoners but left him to keep battling the soviets.

Death camp prisoners were freed once the Allies took those areas once occupied by German troops. There was no chance in hell of saving all the Jews taken prisoner and exterminated by the Nazis.

As far as Hitler himself fighting ANYBODY, it wasn't going to happen. He was a delusional megalomaniac who didn't want to end up like Mussolini and being killed and strung up in a public square to have his corpse beaten by his own people. So, he took the cowards way out with the Soviets less than a mile out of Berlin.

Why??? They started WWI and lost. There's consequences for doing shite like that and they FAFO.

Then they did the unthinkable and followed that idiot Hitler into WWII and history repeated itself.

Just how stupid were the German people back then????

Eh. Not really. Austria-Hungary started World War I when they declared war on Serbia, a nation who Russia guaranteed to protect. True to form, once Austria began shelling Serbia, the Tsar ordered his army to mobilize. In response, France's armies began to mobilize as well. Germany was actually the last of the major European land powers to mobilize their armies in the summer of 1914.

Or did he fake it & escape to Argentina?
from what I heard, I think the Soviets had the body and we had various medical records, and when the iron curtain fell and documents were shared between countries it lined up.

Let’s not sit here and act like the Schlieffen Plan wasn’t primed and ready to go. Sure it was the Austrian-Hungarians who officially started it….

But that put the schlieffen plan into action which is what snowballed it exponentially.

I still place the blame on Belgium, and not Germany though. Let your chocolate soldiers stand down and let the Germans through and the war is over quick n easy without the British intervention.

Don't forget that one of Hitler's henchmen killed Hitler's dog, Blondie, that same day.

Read " Grey Wolf , The Escape of Adolph Hitler" it throws alot of doubts into a lot of things. Also watch "The escape of Martin Bormann". Bormann was his # 1 finance guy.

Its very plausible many many of the Nazi leaders were in Paraguay and South America for many years after WWII.

There's a great documentary on Netflix that goes into the psyche and minset of the German soldiers who were responsible for actually exterminating the Jews.

ETA: The documentary is called Ordinary Men: The Forgotten Holocaust. So obviously it's based off the book you mentioned.

I mean, yeah. It was. That was Germany’s only recourse once Russia and France began to mobilize. Those two were allies, and if Russia honored its commitment to Serbia that would mean war with Germany’s ally Austria. Which would ultimately bring Germany and France into the conflict.

Why wouldn’t I be? Germany had no plans for Belgium. Simply wanted to use the roads to get to France. Don’t blow up bridges. Don’t blow up tunnels. Let the Germans through.

Germans reach Paris sans BEF and the war is over before Christmas.

Belgian pride is what thrust the world into conflict for years.

exactly - they were broken by the treaty - he was a light at the end of the tunnel for them - I'm as old school conservative as it gets - if you are going to impose those types of sanctions you better have the fortitude to enforce them - no one did so ww2 started the day ww1 ended - he was allowed to fill a vacuum and the rest is history
