An inordinate amount of those schools are very old and were kept around despite the areas in question turning into demilitarized zones.
Capitol got turned over to a charter company and Istrouma was shuttered at one point because the school system was trying to stay ahead of the state takeover of failing schools.

That house is in my neighborhood. That house is owned and lived in by a black cardiologist. A few houses down is a black attorney.
My immediate neighbor is a retired NBA player. A retired NYPD Captain is across the street. Both black.
In fact if I had to guess-because I have no reason to have an exact percentage because no one really gives a shite about it, I would guess 30-40% of my St George neighborhood is black. And the ones I know send their kids to private schools.
Great, smart, middle class families just trying to live a good life despite the shite show going on around all of us.
All of these people are just like many of us. Hard working, tax paying middle class families just doing their best to provide for their families and for the most part just want to be left alone. Color doesn’t factor. But we all have one thing in common. We work, we pay taxes and we, the middle class pays the light bill for this country. The upper class elites pay no taxes. The lower class pay no taxes. We tote the note in this country. And sometimes the silent majority wins. We win.
And frick those that don’t understand or care to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and participate with us.

When I lived in the St. George area, I voted for incorporating the city- it’s the people’s democratic right
But I can’t ignore the detriment to the rest of the parish - especially to us who actually pay taxes
