Please include *regular season* if you are going to continue to espouse CJ as the best 3 point shooter in the league. When it mattered he shot 7/29 against OKC, and 1-9 against LA in play-in. Does the NBA’s best 3 point shooter shoot 9-40 in the final 6 postseason games? Cause that’s what homeboy shot

Acting like CJ is an ok defender b/c of his DRtg is just silly. Sometimes stats don't really show a true representation of what they are trying to show.

Yeah that's not the argument the poster made. He said he was flat out awful. Which he wasn't. His dbpm was -.3, just below league average, but not flat out awful.

He also posted the highest VORP of his career this year too.

The only problems with CJ are the same with every other fricking player on the team when Zion is out: they aren't as good

Too busy making game threads to watch CJ get hunted by each OKC starter and get scored on at over a 50% clip?

Even with that strategy they only averaged 105 ppg against us. So what if CJ was a weak link on defense, the defense still wasn't awful with him on the court, and the defense was absolutely not the problem in the OKC series

But hey, if you want to use a 4 game playoff series with our best player out and our 2nd best player playing like shite as an opportunity to condemn cj go for it. Show your arse.

I’d explore trade markets for all 3 of them tbh. Even though I did love what Zion was doing for a couple of months this season. For instance, what harm does it do to call Houston up and see if Sengun is available? If Zion is what it takes to get that done, you probably should do it instead of hoping Zion’s body will finally hold up long enough for the playoffs, as he ages. I really wouldn’t be against a hard reset where we fire Griff, Willie, and trade our entire “big 3”. Because the only way we can win a championship at the moment is if Zion stays healthy for 100 games. If we keep him, we are rolling the dice that it can happen 1-2 times over the next 5 seasons, before his game completely deteriorates (d rose style) bc it’s 98% based on pure athleticism.

I don’t hate this take. If there was a time to trade Zion, it would be after he just played 70 games in a season.

I have serious doubts about Zion’s longevity and play style. Look around the playoffs, do you see any star that has only one move in their bag? Cuz I don’t. You need multiple ways to generate a shot in the playoffs. Zion has one. I don’t think Zion’s play style will translate well in the playoffs.

It's a bit too early to know who wants to make changes. Some of that will depend on how this round of playoffs goes. But for fun, I'd rank my offseason targets in this order:

1. DeJounte Murray Hawks--would package pick(s) and player(s) to get him on Pels. Long PG who shoots threes at good rate and decent % + can handle the ball in crunch time and was a good defender in SA. Problem is Hawks may hold out for Herb in the deal;

2. Jarrett Allen Cavs--I'd offer Ingram in a deal for Allen. We should also get a pick back in the deal. If ended offseason with Murray + Allen I'd be very happy;

3. Darius Garland Cavs. Secondary target, but I like his game and think he'd match well with Zion. He's small and has been injured, but he can pass and score at a high level and can run an offense. He'd be a big upgrade, but if you paired him with CJ, that's all gas, no D...;

4.Onyeka Okongwu Hawks Another secondary target but if you could expand a deal with the Hawks to get Murray and Okongwu that would be a nice package that addresses some critical needs for Pels;

5. Tyler Herro Heat. If Pat Riley is as pissed off as he seems, the player out of Miami I'd want isn't Jimmy Butler, it's Herro. CJ actually put up better shooting numbers than Tyler and is a Heat kind of guy, so CJ + a pick for Herro and possibly Jokic might be doable...;

Wild Card: The suggestion of using Zion as bait is out there, but if you could do a deal with Rockets for say Sengun & Green, Pels become a wild team with CJ/Green/Herb/BI/Sengun + Trey/Hawk/Dyson off the bench. Far fetched but fun idea. Hey, Griff did say they'd explore all options...

Herro seems like a bad fit defensively and a more expensive win-now version of what we want Hawkins to be.

He is potentially a microwave off the bench but $29m is just frickin ugly for a bench guy.

You use Zion out as excuse. What is your excuse for the LAL play in game where we lost by 4 with CJ shooting 1-9 from 3. He is the antithesis of clutch. He disappears when you need him

BI's value will pretty much be tied to his willingness to extend with the team we'd want to trade him to. If he's unwilling, we're probably won't get much for him or get the pieces we covet.

Whats that got to do with him being "flat out awful on defense?" Or are you just admitting that you were wrong about that?

Lol no, I am not taking back that CJ is by far and away the worst defender on the team. You were using Zion being out to excuse his terrible performance against OKC but when Zion last played against Lakers CJ went 1-9 from 3

I think the Pels should unload CJ and/or LN for salary cap flexibility. The next step is to draft a big that is an offensive threat. I think the center from Duke, Marquette and Indiana fit the bill.
However number one is player development. Z and DD need to develop their bb skills. Z has to lose another twenty pounds this summer not during the season. My guess is his hamstrig injury is a direct result of tried muscles or lack of conditioning. Secondly he has to develop a midrange shot. Z's game will better fit Brandon if Z's defender has to respect his outside shoot.
Daniel's needs to play one position not be a jack of all trades. He needs an outside shot and a floater. With avmobile center and Z new found shot it will allow DD to drive the lane.

Fire Willie green and let Antonio Daniels become head coach (always was his goal.) Draft a center and find a floor general.

I'm sorry that you can't see over your hate boner for cj bro. He had a bad series like every other pel. He played bad in a play in game. That doesn't disqualify what he did for the team this year. He's played a lot of really good ball for us and had a damn near career year. He's just tied to Zion when it comes to being most effective, like a lot of our players.

Oh and the correct answer for worst defensive player on the team that played was Jordan Hawkins. If you want to shift goalposts again go ahead, but your clown takes on cj will not be tolerated by me

I was talking to guys at my work about this today. And I would add that he could come back next season as”fat” Zion. I would expect we could get a kings ransom right now

If we trade Zion we may as well sell and relocate the team.

He knows that I’m packing and he also knows that CJ is so bad that he had to bring Hawkins into the equation to argue CJ isn’t the worst defender on the team. A rookie that barely saw the floor is being brought into the discussion to argue a veteran G making over $30M annually is indeed not our worst defender. This is just blind homerism
