Loosen it up then remove with a large solo cup. Haven't tried it but seen it in a video.

I get a gallon zip lock bag (the ones with a slider) and wrap it around the filter and zip it as close to the engine as possible. It’s not perfect, but it catches most of it.

Most filters are set to allow you to just barely break the seal and the oil will come out controlled. After that stops, you slowly twist off and should not have much oil remaining except what is in the filter.
