Dirty Chop Block vs. Fake Punt

F those GT fans that are upset about the fake punt. That DIRTY chop block right off the bat deserved anything we wanted to answer with short of another chop block. Also i recall their star DE making a dirty play. anybody remember what he did? The fake punt was for the referees because they made a few calls-no calls that kept us out of the endzone.

They did it all night long. They took out Alexander and RJF with chop blocks.

I posted the same comments on another thread. Selective memory by the vanquished =

Yeah, that was a bad call.

That "dirty chop block" wasn't intentional. The fake punt was, FWIW. I'm not saying I disagree with Miles' decision, but you can't argue that.

No reason to be an arse. We beat them fair and square. The officiating was strict, but fair.
If they chop blocked it was called. the refs didn't allow that stuff to go on (unlike SEC refs). Tech uses cut blocks and that is not dirty.

They never are of course.

How do you know it was? And, LSU got called for one last night, too.

If I was betting I'd say odds are that not only was the GT chop block by design by the players because they were getting beat, but the LSU one was in retaliation.

You do realize that the one GT lineman was doing a cut block (legal), the LSU D-lineman probably slanted away, so he reached to try to get him, while the other GT lineman, who saw the LSU guy start heading to his gap, engaged him.

A cut block is aimed at the front of the defensive man, a chop is to the side/back of the player. He saw what he was doing. Call it what it is. At least payback was legal, and only hurt their pride, which needed some adjustment.

I know this Buckeye. The past three chop blocks in recent memory to LSU came when LSU's big D Line was handling the Offensive line of the opposition, Auburn, Alabama, and GT.
You rarely see a chop block, oops, "unintentional chop block" when the O-Line is doing their job and pushing the D-Line around.

That's a clip. A chop block is when one lineman hits him low, the other high. Both of those are illegal. Then, there's the cut block, which is just one guy going low, and nobody else hits him (legal). The one GT guy did a cut block, the other one hit him high in the process, resulting in a chop block.

Chop blocks do happen by accident sometimes. Just like facemasks. It just happens during play and you can't help it.
Not many people realize this unless they've played on the O-line of a football team. It didn't look intentional to me FWIW.
Besides, why would a coach teach a player to intentionally do something that would get a potential big play called back? I know Chaz did it intentionally, but he's a douche.

The fake punt was not a revenge call- but rather good coaching-You coach to win not coach to not lose. GT came back on GA after being down and LM wanted to insure they did not have the ball in their hands long enough to make a come back
Smart coaching!

but wasn't this penalty called on Tech's first drive? Hardly enough time for the O-line to get upset about being handled.

You rarely see a chop block at all.
You actually make a good point, that it could be due to LSU's dominance. The GT lineman tried to get a cut, the LSU guy was slanting, and the other GT guy, noticing some penetration, tried to block. That doesn't mean it's intentional.
