These are my top 5 most desirable cities in Louisiana to raise a family or retirement. If you looking to relocate to Louisiana or already a Louisiana resident looking to relocate in state for mentioned reasons, start with this list. As a Louisiana native, I know where to go. Good quality of life without the crime, bad demographic trends, and corruption of BR and NOLA, but also still affordable-ish. Except for Bossier City, the rest are reasonable driving distance to BR and NOLA for weekend trips and stuff. Bossier is closer to Dallas which I also would love for some weekend big city stuff.

1) Mandeville
2) Lafayette
3) Grand Isle
4) Bossier City
5) Central City

I’d like to know what metrics you used to get Grand Isle on this list because it certainly isn’t the corruption or affordability

That's another good one but it's an honorable mention to me. Ruston is too much of a college town to me. I'm not a big fan of the college town feel

Mandeville is a crime infested wasteland, I would never raise my family or retire to it. It’s also FULL

It’s not a college town at all. There’s not a bar in the city limits

In 2025 I can't imagine a town to retire in or raise a family

Forgot about Benton. I haven't lived up that way in a long time and always just considered part of North Bossier. I guess I should swap Bossier for Benton in my list.

Grand isle? You're list is voided after seeing GRAND ISLE...

eta: You're list is stuck in the 1990's.

Revised List for South Louisiana as of 2025:

1. Hammond
2. Folsom
3. Covington
4. Youngsville
5. Central

Youngsville and Broussard should be on there.

Suburbs give you country vibes, nice real estate for a solid price compared to other parts of the state, OK schools, close proximity to Lafayette, great food, good kid recreation opportunities.

Yeah, nice place to fish, but who would want to live there?

I'm sure you can't afford it anyway. Mandeville is for the top earners in Louisiana
