The Hertz or Enterprise groups. Looking for a cheap commuter car and ran across their websites. Prices were decent, but God a only knows what some of these cars have been through. Just curious if anyone had any past experiences.

I’ve considered it, never done it.

Total gamble.

Potentially a great deal, potentially a piece of crap.

How do you treat a car when it is a rental?

If you just need a beater that you don't care about - go for it. It is probably well maintained mechanically.

But its also probably had a porno shot in it as well.

My buddy owns a car place and can sell the Enterprise Fleet cars and trucks. I bought a used Fleet Toyota Carrola from him. Best car I've ever owned and got a good deal on it.

Should have put the car company name in your title.

Finding out your question was/is anti-climactic and instills spite, to not want to answer.

In 2007 I bought a 2006 Grand Cherokee from a regular dealership used car lot with 17k miles on it. It was a rental car for all of that 17k miles. I just cracked 160k miles on it without any major problems, yet.

I've bought 4 cars from Enterprise. They only sell the best 10% of their fleet themselves. The rest they sell to Billy Bob's Corner Car Lot type places.

If you buy directly from Enterprise you're getting a car that has a spotless service record and has had regular maintenance. They offer a warranty and will take trade ins.

In my experience, it's a pretty safe way to buy a used car. Yes, there's a chance it's been driven hard. But cars are built way better than they used to be, and the one's that Enterprise chooses to sell themselves are top quality.

Mature, grownup males .... no different then their own rig.

Immature, need to grow up males .... like a child with a toy they've tired of.

anytime one of my friends is considering buying a rental car, I relay something jeff foxworthy has said
“yes ma’am, thank you for asking, I would like the insurance coverage on this rental because it’s fixin to see more air time than a bmx bike at the x games...”

chances are most of those cars been abused like a rented mule...

My parents bought a car from Enterprise recently. Spotless history and well maintained. Other than one little scratch on hard plastic on the interior of the driver’s door, it’s absolutley spotless.

And they even give you a week to return it if for whatever reason you aren’t satisfied. During that time they took it to their mechanic just to make sure everything looks good.

This would have easily fit in the thread title:

I bought a former rental 2 years ago. 2015 Hyundai Accent with 40K on it. Haven’t had a single issue with it, runs great. I use it to get from point A to point B and it serves that purpose well.

If I listened to this board’s advice, you’d think I was buying a used mattress from a whorehouse.

that is why the prices are what they are, its a definite risk but when renting you have to pay for any damage so most people take decent car of them as you would a company car.

with that said, think about who uses them, tourists or mostly business traveling types, or people who wrecked their cars.

if there is no history of accidents and the mileage isnt high i wouldnt think twice about it and feel your more likely to get a good vehicle then not.

Parents bought us first card that way. Car ran fine. Didn’t notice any issues because of it being a rental. College girlfriend bought one that way too and it worked out.
