This year they return some contributors and ADD the 7th ranked recruiting class plus the kid from VA Tech who was a highly sought after grad transfer.

They very well could be the favorite to win the league

Agree whole heartedly and I think they will likely be considered the favorite going into the season (save possibly the typical media love-fest with UK).

I think many of our fans are underestimating the loss that not having Tremont will bring; but I think it can be overcome. The guards will be solid. And while I think Smart is definitely a different style from Waters, he will do well in year 2. I just hope he can learn to be a little better at creating offense for others and not just himself.

If they do not find anyone to fill the KBW role, then I think it will be critical for them to get much better at shooting the 3 and becoming a way more defensively efficient team to be a contender for championship in SEC and a 2nd weekend team again.

I do like the fact though that, without injury, this roster will be much deeper and more experienced than last years. They will be able to easily go about 10 deep without much drop-off.

We should be in the mix to win the sec again. If we get the big kid to reclassify to 2019 and commit to the Tigers we should have a replacement for bigby williams. I think we would have a better team than last year if that happens.

In the mix for the SEC, but I think we lost too much to win it back to back. The SEC is too good to win two years in a row (feels weird saying that about basketball) but I would think that another sweet 16 feels probable.

Top 3 finish in the league and 6/8 seed

that would be disappointing considering the season the SEC just had.

I'm just thankful we will have our coach for the tournament!

Right now I see us around 4th. Florida and Kentucky are probably the top choice for early season favorites.

Last I read, the reclassification isn't happening.

That said, I would rank the top half of the SEC like this:

1. Kentucky
2. Florida
3. Auburn
4. LSU
5. Tennessee
6. Miss. St.
7. Alabama

IMO, UK and UF have probably separated themselves from the pack a just bit, but I think LSU and Auburn COULD contend as well. Tenn loses a ton of veteran production and leadership. Miss. St. loses some key guys and for whatever reason Howland hasn't been able to completely put things together there. Bama is an unknown. They have talent, but also a new coach.

IMO, the SEC isn't quite as strong as it was going into last year.

The bad news for LSU is the glaring hole inside on defense. Who is going to protect the basket for a team that already hasn't been great defensively under Wade?

The good news is that the league doesn't appear to have many (if any) dominant teams, so that weakness may not get exposed as much as it would have last year.

8 seed plays an evenly matched game.

Reality bites.

The 4 and 5 play each other 2nd game.

Every game in ncaa is an adventure.

Smart is a matchup nightmare for opposing coaches. The kid can hit the three and get in the lane anytime he wants. The kid has that “jump on my back let’s roll” mentality. He wants the ball in his hands at the end of game. You can’t teach that u got Igor u don’t. He got it!

Smart is a talent no doubt, but was far too inconsistent last year, he'll need to improve on that.

I think you overrate his ability to shoot, he was very inconsistent there as well, the hope is work and experience improves his consistency there as ell.

He was a matchup problem for certain teams but not all, some were able to scheme him an render him ineffective.

I will agree with you he does have that mentality, and that is a plus if managed, we just need him to, IMHO re-direct that more effectively and efficiently.

This team is going to be really good. James Bishop is going to turn heads. Great addition to this team and will be a more than adequate PG. He's much better than our fan base realizes.

Like others have said, the biggest hole is a rim protector. Bigby-Williams will be missed. However, I see Williams and Days making big jumps this year over last. Taylor was our best defender last year and I can see Williams becoming a much bigger force, defensively, this year.

This is a Top 3-4 SEC team and a repeat Sweet 16 team.
