Just talked to one of the shuttle bus guys at US PARK. He said he timed his new route from their lot to the terminal and it averages about 12 minutes.

A coworker flew in today and went to Avis to get his car. The Avis guy told him the rental shuttle duration is running around 18 minutes from the trial runs.

That means 30 minutes once there’s real traffic to contend with

I will be arriving Friday evening, so I can give an update. That will be a few days after the “bugs” have been worked out.....or not. Curious to see how long the luggage wait is and the wait for the parking shuttle busses.

I-10 is already a clusterfrick in Metairie. This will only make matters worse.

Flew out of this morning. (Old) MSY was a cluster. TSA lines (even Pre) took a while. Virtually every shop had empty shelves.

Instead, our bureaucrats (NOT the airlines) chose a fourth alternative completely opposite of everything that made basically everything existing useless or obsolete.

People who continue to push this false narrative drive me crazy.

The airlines have a majority in interest (MII) clause that allows them to approve or reject any major capital project that could impact their rates and charges. Like a new parking deck, refreshed terminals, or yes, a brand new terimal. The airlines all signed off on the alternative that was ultimately selected.

Did the envision that the shithead duo of Landrieu/Jindal would bone the development/roadway access as badly as they did? Certainly not.

All that said, it is still going to be a shitshow for the next three to four years. So prepare yourself, New Orleans.... you should have expected it.

Yeah, that's been the case 2 out of every 3 flights I've taken for the last 5 years. Just more proof that the consolidated and expanded checkpoint is needed.

That's a result of shitty vendors and the airport not giving AF about the old terminal anymore. They should have been forced to run properly until the last day, but when the airport isn't pushing you, and some of the vendors aren't making the trip to the new place, this is what happens.

I’ve got a flight on Monday at 7pm. Should I arrive at 2am? Will they give be enough time?

I wonder why they decided to do it tonight... maybe they were worried about moving the planes overnight with limits on how long the pilots can work?

The 3 Southwest arrivals after 8 pm that are going to the old terminal... they all have later departures.

I think they can move planes across tarmac using tugs without pilots. Not sure though.

From the aerial views it looks like only 2 concourses and fewer jet bridges? If this is correct, is it about being more streamlined and efficient?

2 "and a half" concourses - there is a small concourse that sticks out on the left (if you are looking at it from the old terminal). That was an expansion pack that wasn't supposed to be built for a few more years, but they decided to add it on now (part of the reason for the delays).

Fewer gates. Old terminal has gates being unused, also, some of the gates at the new terminal will be "common use" gates. The airlines that only have a few flights a week won't have their own gate.

New jurisdiction for the river pilots. They have to have one qualified pilot present for any movement between the old and new terminal. Fixed salary of $600,000.00 annually per pilot.
