You may be 100% correct, and it still doesn't touch the double standard.

What Trump said about bad people crossing the border to this day is held up as proof positive of him being a racist and it is just as clear in that quote that he was in no way saying all Mexican people are bad.

I agree that using common sense standards, it was probably nothing. Using the left's own standard for these things, Biden might as well have been wearing blackface. And I suspect you know this.

When Biden says these things everyone says, "Well, you know that's not really what he meant, he just misspoke." When a Republican says anything remotely approaching something like this there is literally rending of clothes and teeth gnashing.

Democrats get the benefit of the doubt and the benefit of their intentions vs their words. Republicans don't get any benefit and have intentions ascribed to them that aren't even reflected in what they actually said.
