Anybody Got A Crawfish Washer?

That red tub with hose fittings that cleans your crawfish? We did a thread on 'do they work,' but I'd like to know how much they hold. The literature says 20-30 pounds, but most sacks are 30 lbs plus. SO: will the washer hold an entire sack of crawfish? Thanks.

You got hands and a hose? Then you got yourself a crawfish washer

Crawfish go in ice chest, spigot open, run water through ice chest until it runs clear when it comes out the spigot.
Close spigot
Shake a bit of salt into ice chest. Fill up 1/4 way with water.
Leave top of ice chest open, lay empty sack on top of crawfish.
Drink half a beer.
Open spigot, run some more water from the house into the ice chest, drain it all out.
Transfer crawfish from ice chest to pot basket, drop basket when the pot is good to go.
I've done it that way since I was a teenager.
Ever since crawfish started really becoming popular in places like Texas, smart businessmen have come up with obnoxious crawfish-related items to get money out of people. all of it is unnecessary.

OK, for chrissakes, I'm looking at one from Academy.
It's named "Cowboy's" and it says it can hold up to "a full bag of crawfish"
WTF is a bag of crawfish?
Also... why is there this desire for crystal-clear crawfish? You eating the stuff inside the shell, not the damn shell itself. You wanna knock enough dirt off to make them presentable, but this is nuts.
Maybe the people who boil their crawfish in plain water and them dump tony's on them after they come out of the pot... maybe those people need super-clean shells.

Why do people insist on salt purging?
Because if they're still dirty, the water will get muddy and that's what you'll taste. If you've ever had crawfish where someone just dumped them out of the sack and into the pot, you'll know it's gross.

Salting crawfish to purge them is a myth. It's an unnecessary step.
To answer the OP question, my brother has one. His did not hold a full sack, hence why he went back to using an ice chest.

Perhaps. I've used the same recipe for decades. It works. It takes no time and cost like 3 cents worth of salt.

Knock the obvious dirt off, yes. Anything beyond that isn't going to make a difference, unless, again, you are eating or licking the shells.

Yes I have one. It’s the best at cleaning crawfish and a lot easier than the ice chest method. I highly recommend trying one.

It doesn't work per se. It just doesn't do anything.
I agree though it's obnoxious all the crawfish gadgets to buy now

It absolutely does. I got one as a gift last year. Easiest thing and all you do is add a little soap and water and hose out when done.

I bought one a couple of years ago. It'll hold a 30 pound sack, but really works best when batching about 20 pounds. Yes, it uses a lot of water. But it definitely gets them cleaner. It's a difference maker. The moment I started using the Crawfish Washer is the moment I started boiling the best crawfish in my life.

I'm talking about salting the water
Not some washing device

Buckees sells a version that’s $50. Pretty good deal compared to the cowboy one which is at least $20 more.
I made one last year. It works pretty good but yeah, struggles with a full 30 lb sack. It does get them more clean and is easier.

Can you use it as a gut bucket when you're done? That's basically my gut bucket with a few fittings from Lowes. Cut some slits in a 1/2" pvc pipe with a metabo and make one yourself. Then you'll have a dual purpose gut bucket
