Looking to upgrade my GMG. Anyone have a Pitts & Spitts? If so, how is it?

I don’t know much about them but seeing they can get to 600 degrees is a nice feature.

Meant to come back but forgot.
Yeah I have the Maverick 850. I was actually able to get an amazing deal on it from someone who cooks hams for his family and friends every year on it so he was upgrading to the larger Maverick. Got a great deal on it and it looks literally brand new.
So far it has been awesome. Holds temp perfectly. I've been super impressed with it. Everything is high quality and sturdy and it looks awesome as well.
Let me know if you have any specific questions but I would recommend the unit and would buy it again.

Take a look at the MAK 2 star general. It is also made in the USA and has the best controller in the industry. Lots of good reviews out there if you are interested. The Pitts and Spitts looks good and is made well but I have heard some complaints about the controller and the lack of smoke. I think they may have upgraded the controller though but have not heard how the new ones are.

The updated controller is fantastic. And the older ones were pellet pro pid controllers as well which are highly regarded. No worries with the controllers at all.
Smoke is on par with all pellet smokers. None produce a crazy amount of smoke.

My buddy is part owner. The pellet smokers are top notch.

I found this thread a couple weeks back when researching pellet smokers - specifically the Pitts and Spitts. Ended up getting the Maverick 1250. The thing is every bit as well built as you'd expect from the specifications...very thick steel, fully welded. Also, it came with some extras that others in the price range will charge for.
Using it, the smoker has a ton of space and a very large primary grate. The controller held the temp within a narrow range and produced consistent thin blue smoke below 250 degrees or so (more as you go lower). I like the clean, light smoke, but if you want more of a ceramic kamado style smoke profile, you can throw in a $10 smoke tube. The grease drain setup is very functional. It, combined with foiling the drip pan, makes cleaning very easy. I found some suggestions online to fill the grease area with water for a little extra moisture on a long smoke. I tried it, and it worked well. Don't know that I'll do it every time, but it is a nice option to have and avoids having to worry about a water pan if you want the moisture. I'd guess pellet usage is about 1# per hour in the mid 200 degree range.
And for a PSA in case anyone is interested...I bought my smoker from this shop in Houston for a very good deal - https://texasstargrillshop.shop/collections/pitts-spitts-grills Today the sent an email with a code for 15% off ("scary") that looks to apply on top of the web sale price. They charged me $350 for shipping. I'd think you'd have a hard time getting a better price ($1699 + shipping for the 1250 - no sales tax for LA).
