Baked potato question

If I normally do two at once in the oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes, if I add another potato, should I add more time?

Cook till it is 210 degrees internal temperature, get it there however you like

You need to bake them hotter than 350. This recipe from ATK is the shite.

I always bake at 450 to get them done faster. No need to add time since a typical oven won't have any issues with 3 potatoes. It might take longer of you were doing it in a toaster oven or the like.

I’ve been doing them in the air fryer and they come out perfect. I’m guessing a normal old school toaster oven with a crappy heating element might not be able to keep up with a lot of food though.

slather with oil and salt. Bake for 1 hour at 425. Check for fork tenderness

Thanks everyone. I was in a time crunch to get them done before grilling out with family. I raised the temp to 400 for the last 25 minutes after reading this thread and they came out pretty good.

This ^
If you have a temp probe you use for meat, also use it on baked potatoes (thickest part of the biggest one). Since I learned the 210 rule, I haven't undercooked a potato.

Just throw them in a microwave instead of worrying about it. 5 mins in a zip lock with occasional flips. The put in a toaster oven or heated oven for a couple of mins to toast the skin.
I use to waste time with the oven, and did the microwave and haven't gone back. I eat baked potatoes multiple times a week so saves so much time. I got a few of those red potatoe express bags now though instead of using zip locks.

The oven will not know that you added another potato.

Tasseo,
What is your method?
When using a potato bag, do you poke your potato with a fork? Once? or several pokes? I found the red bags at Amazon, but silent as to poking the spud.
Thanks

Unless you tell it what you are doing. Best to keep quiet and just add the Potatoe!

I wash and scrub it
Do 7 fork pokes around it
Coat with olive oil
425 for an hour

Poke some holes with fork on sides and top.
Brine with salt water for 1 minute
Cook 425 for 45 minutes
Take out and check temp. Should be 205 internal.
If so, brush with duck fat or bacon fat.
Put back in 425 for 5 minutes
They done.

I have cooked about a thousand baked potatoes in my life. Two of the last three times I have baked them I have had one explode. Kinda a mess. I bake at 400 for about 1:15.

it takes a while for an oven to heat a potato from the outside in, to a constant temp for cooking consistently. this can be overcome by putting a hot potato in the oven which is already consistently hot throughout, after 3 minutes in the microwave. this reduces cook time at least 10 minutes.
never wrap in foil, that's not a baked potato, it's a potato boiled in it's own water.

Interesting. I never had a potato explode on me and I cook mine like this almost weekly.
