BBQ Showdown Netflix Series - Season 3 Discussion Thread *SPOILERS*

What are everyones thoughts on this show? I just finished Season 3 and here are my takeaways.
Where do they find these contestants? (Melissa, the contestant not judge, should have never made it as far as she did let alone made it on the show).
Nice to see two contestants from Louisiana.
The judges like to contradict themselves a lot.
The winner of this season is a "World BBQ Champion," but they cooked their first-ever brisket on this show.
I liked the different competitions they did this Season.
The host offers nothing of value to the series. Kevin and Melissa can host by themselves.
Overall Best: Sloan
Underdog/Most Unique: Kareem
Wow'ed me the most: Gerald

Kareem was on my radar as I've seen many videos about his food and next time I'm in Austin I want to try it.
I'm a huge fan of the guy from Nola too. He had a place in the St Roch market then moved to metairie but closed and opened Slow and Pho in the St Roch market. Em Trai his last place had a better menu but it was very big maybe too big for the current set up.

I've kept up with this show. I have two episodes left even though the winner was already spoiled for me on another forum. All your comments are spot on. Not sure how they find the contestants but word probably travels fast in the bbq community when calls for applications go out. Gerald and Tung are good people IRL. They both have teams at Hogs for the Cause.

I could tell Gerald is a really good dude. Glad he made it to the finale. Still think he should have won over Shaticka.

Yeah they always throw followup challenge curveballs in the later episodes, otherwise she would have gone home with her brisket.
I like that there is an element of ad libbing they have to do with their cooking sometimes. Gives me ideas.
They also must ask the contestants what ingredients they cannot do without. Found it funny when Kareem had pistachio butter out of nowhere.

That shocked me that you are going on a bbq showdown show and you didn't think to try a brisket just incase.
after 2 episodes, I would start to see what the challenge was and what they picked then FF to the judging portion and who won/lost.

Have tried all of the top tier Austin bbq spots. Most are fairly interchangeable. KG is on its own level with different flavor twists, including the sides.

2 things
1. Melissa Cookston seems like a terrible person.
2. It’s not a bbq show.

Agree with #1.
Curious as to why you think #2.

Restaurant was hot garbage the only time I went there. The cheese fritter things were alright, but the bbq was poorly seasoned and felt microwaved.

You described it pretty well.
The host is annoying and makes no sense.
Sloan was a real pit master and legit.
Gerald grew on me as he was always pumping up the others throughout and seems real genuine.
Shatika did a real good job, but weird you never have cooked a brisket and I mean not even one before the show? A little unbelievable to me.
Kareem presented some new and interesting items.
