Just put together one of the mini charcoal weber grills.

What's the best way to break in the grill?

first up should be burgers and sausages. also every time I "clean" my grill grates I simply brush them off lightly to get any big charred pieces off. not soap and water and wire brush and scrub scrub scrub like some people do. also you can rub grates w/ olive oil before cooking at your pleasure.

So just spray some cooking olive oil on there each time before cooking?

Yeah some people are into that. I do it if I'm cooking something that sticks easy, like chicken or sausage.

Spray with Pam, it's easier.

Before grilling with food, if charcoal grill, put in charcoal, light it, and let it burn out.

If gas, let it heat up and keep it that way for 30 minutes.

What's the purpose of letting the charcoal burn out?

It burns the crap away and makes the grill safe to use for food. Sorry for such a simplistic answer.

Burns off oils and such from manufacturing. You don't want that stuff or that smell in your food.

Yup. It gets any of the factory chemicals off. If there is any oil or anything in the grill, burning some charcoal inside first, gets rid of all the impurities. Honestly, you don't have to do this, it won't hurt anything if you just throw burgers on, but it's a good piece of mind sort of thing.

Or you can do your own research and not be a little bitch.

I would recomend using all natural lump charcoal. It is not made with any chemicals, burns hotter, and leaves less ash behind. It is also reusable.

If you are getting a charcoal grill with cast grill surfaces get some raw pork belly and spread it all over it. It will season the things, it will make a damn big fire too.
