As long as the vodka stays 12.99 a handle I’m okay.

Same here. They dropped the Reposado a couple years ago. $19.99 for 1.75 liter was a deal.

Almost every brand has a 1.75. For any liquor really, outside of the higher tier stuff.

That Kirkland Silver Tequila is legit. Makes a great Margarita. I buy a 1.75 liter bottle for $18.99 here in L.A. Can't beat that with a stick.

Reposado had been $20 for a litre bottle for at least 4 years. Last time I was down the alcohol isle a few weeks ago, I saw the 1.75L bottle of Silver.

We are supposedly facing a tequila shortage.

quote:

Reuters reported:"The price of Agave tequilana, the blue-tinged, spikey-leaved succulent used to make the alcoholic drink, has risen six-fold in the past two years, squeezing smaller distillers' margins and leading to concerns that shortages could hit even the larger players."

The article noted that the 17.7 million blue agaves planted in 2011 in Mexico for use in 2018 won't come near to meeting the 42 million the industry requires to supply 140 registered companies.

Kirklands may have backed off if the price got too high.

Funny. I was in there yesterday looking for it and wondering the same thing.

I noticed that the last time I went there too—the tequila that looked like it was made by Milagro. Ended up buying the Anejo Kirkland Gold Tequila.

Tequila is the only spirit required to have a specific identifier on the bottle. All tequilas are required to have a NOM (Norma Oficial Mexicana) identifier. If you find the number, you can go to the NOM database on tequila.net and look up who actually made it.

Texas doesn't have Kirkland brand spirits so I have no clue who makes it now.

I sell booze for a living and this thread was the first I've heard of a tequila shortage. Seems overblown if you ask me.

Bump to see if anyone has an update. I haven’t seen the silver the last 3 times I’ve been to the NOLA store and I only have have a bottle left. Gonna mess up my margarita situation just in time for pool weather...
