They apparently went to Phils, Parrains, Capital City Grill, Iverstine, and Dempseys.
I think Dempseys and Phils both air in April

The last time I went to Dempseys, bugs were at the bottom of my fries. I will never dine there again. The place is gross inside.

You mean he didn't hit up Pastime and Schlitz & Giggles

I heard he went to Al Noor - a co-worker saw him coming out of the restaurant. And there were rumors he hit Elsie's Plate and Pie. My wife and I went there for brunch the Saturday he was around and Elsie's was closed for a private event. (You gotta figure all the filming is done under controlled circumstances with friendly regulars. You don't want to have a camera crew in your restaurant while a drunk dipshit is groping waitresses or a Karen is raising hell about a dish being too spicy)

They probably had a hotel downtown.

Isn't it true that Phil's Oyster bar uses imported shrimp?

It's never lived up to the hype it receives here. I've never understood the allure.

The Government Street iteration of Phil's is what eating at a seafood place should be like. None of this bright light shite. I want it a little dark and two short Italian ladies greeting me at the door. Loud bar with cold drinks. Food was great. The last time I ate there, Percy Sledge was sitting next to me.

They should have never built the new place out without the oyster bar right at the door as you walked in.

"We proudly serve local crawfish, shrimp, catfish, tuna & softshell crab."

Another case of old Baton Rouge residents constantly pumping sunshine into old restaurants because that's all they've ever known. I had Dempsey's once, and it's just okay. I'm not blown away but I have heard older folk talk it up like it's world class cuisine.

Not really accurate, I eat there occasionally, it is strictly zero-frills dining, all the fixtures are 60's retro, the fluorescent bulbs hiss and buzz overhead, bad art cover the walls, and I have had to request clean silver wear a couple of times.
The food is not to all tastes, some friends savor the gumbo, personally, it is too thick for me. My favorite day to do there is Friday, the lunch special is a fried catfish and jambalaya plate, the catfish is crispy and delicious, the jambalaya is very good. The fried shrimp are big and great on a poboy.
The menu is similar to many other small restaurants, expect red beans & rice on Mondays as required, the usual poboys and lots of fried foods. The service people are all pleasant and your food will arrive quickly, even at the peak of the lunch crowd.
For this genre, the mom & pop diner, I'd put it in the top 25%.

Be interested in watching how these shows end up. I love watching DDD and always wondered if those places are truly as good as they make them look.
I’ve been to all of these BR restaurants a lot and like them all, but would never call them great or phenomenal.

The bar to get on this show must not be very high these days.

The thing I don't like about DDD is that no matter how crappy the food is, Fieri always says, "Bro - nice job" and daps the chef. I'd like it better if he were more honest w/ the reviews.
