I went to Rouses a couple days ago looking for the large box of frozen already cut Jimmy Dean Breakfast Sausage and couldn't find it in the frozen food section where it is normally kept.

Asked a store employee and he told me they had discontinued selling that product and he couldn't understand why since it was a good seller for them.

It was a box with 32 individual patties, 8 per layer on wax paper stacked 4 high. They were a hell of a lot easier than getting the fresh roll and cutting individual slices out of it since that can become a fluster cluck by the time you have cut 4 slices.

Guess it's time to sample other brands to see if I can find something suitable.

Get these from Sam's. Like 13 bucks/box

Sharpen your knife. After I did, that roll slices like butter.

My wife has a Sam's card and I'll tell her to pick some up this weekend. I've been happy with the flavor of Jimmy Dean sausage for ages and if this is close, it may be a keeper.

Thanks for the heads-up.

My knives are kept sharp. I find the first few cuts do well and then they start to fall off, but I cut through the plastic wrap and don't strip the wrap off the sausage roll.

Not that I know of, but I really haven't looked for many alternatives, so they may be in the frozen meat case.

If I'm not mistaken, I've eaten at a few Bob Evans diners when visiting a friend of mine up in Bloomington, Indiana. Damn good breakfasts at that place.

I love Swaggerty's sausage. Can't always find it and the patties are rare. Good to know Sam's carries them.

Yes. We find Swaggerty's very good. We buy the hot sausage roll. I chill it for a few minutes in the freezer for easier slicing.

The Jimmy Dean pre-cooked is good, but damn it's greasy. We used to use it for our pancake breakfast in December, but we switched last year to the Great Value patties- they look and taste just like McDonald's Sausage and are way less greasy. I highly recommend.

Never used the pre-cooked, always the raw. That way I can cook 6 patties, put some biscuits in the oven, use 2 patties chopped up for a white sausage gravy and have 2 patties each for the wife and I to toss on the cooked biscuits with gravy on top.

I do this about once a month on a weekend morning.

Not if you SLIGHTLY freeze it until it’s semi-firm (twss).
