Doc's Seafood Shack in Orange Beach -review

For many years we have passed by Doc's on Canal Rd and said one day we need to go try it out. That day finally came and it was good.
There was no social distancing at the bar but the beer was cold
The restaurant has been an Orange Beach dive for many years. It's "shack" name is an appropriate description of the place.
They bring out cups of horseradish, tarter sauce and ketchup to make your own "dip"
They have a limited menu due to the china flu. They advertise that they have the "best fried shrimp in the entire civilized world" It was good but the entire civilized world? C'mon man.
The shrimp dinner was good but not $22 good. Crispy coated shrimp that comes with fries, slaw and 2 hushpuppies. We have heard the fried chicken was good but it and many other items were not available. The fried oysters were also good. The place is always busy and we had good service despite the place being packed. We will go back when things get back to normal.

We really like Doc’s, especially for lunch. Good blue plate lunch specials.

We’ve been to Docs several times over the years and went 2 weeks ago. Except for the covid restrictions it was the same as always. Nothing earth shattering but good fried food and a good lunch spot. I wouldn’t wait long to eat at Doc’s though. I’d go somewhere else

I’ve been here 10 years and have stopped at Doc’s twice. 1st time was year one when I saw best fried shrimp on Earth. Last time was to meet friends 4 years ago and waited an hour for fried food I can get anywhere on the Island. That’s the original OB location. Haven’t been to the one on Beach Rd yet. But will report back when I do.

I always enjoy the odor of old grease in the air when we pass by Doc's. We have eaten there and I am sure we will again. I agree with the opinions I read here.

I've eaten their shrimp loaf for years. I had some earlier this summer and it was good to great as usual. But there are less and less shrimp the last few years. $20 lunch for a handful of shrimp is no Bueno.
