Only spent a weekend but here are my thoughts.
Copper Onion - Outstanding brunch. Food was very good and drinks were a step above. Diverse crowd and felt perfectly comfortable here having a couple of cocktails before touring the LDS grounds.
White Horse - Outstanding whiskey and cocktail bar. 5 or 6 shelf bar. Great, truly great service. Fine cocktails. Solid oyster selection. No complaints. Would be there often if this was in Birmingham.
Eva - Small plates. Very pleased with food. Service was just okay

Yes. Salt Lake is a very good food city. It's not New Orleans, Charlestown, or even Birmingham, but we always leave impressed.
Breakfast/Brunch:
Ruth's Diner
I had the salmon hash here and was impressed. They are known for their biscuits.
Penny Ann's Cafe
My wife is a pancake girl. She claims that these are the best pancakes she's ever had. We go here every time we are there and usually more than once. Be hungry.
Lunch:
Moochie's
They claim to have the best sandwich in town. Get a sandwich, fries, and the fry sauce.
The Park Cafe
Really enjoyed the people watching here. They had some Utah football recruits in there last time we were there.
R&R BBQ
Yep. Gas station BBQ. It was very good and a little taste of home.
Dinner Casual:
The Pie Underground
Iconic college pizza place. The pizza was good, but you're there for the atmosphere.
Red Iguana
Mole sauces. This is the place. There will be a line down the block at all times. It's worth the wait.
Dinner Fine Dining:
Provisions
Very well executed food here.
Log Haven
This is a little out of town and up one of the canyons, but I wouldn't go to Salt Lake City and not go here. It might be my favorite restaurant. Make a reservation and try to get there a little early. Scenery is amazing as is the food. If they have elk or bison on the menu, get it.
Breweries:
Fisher Brewing
My favorite venue. Again, I wouldn't go to SLC and not go here.
Epic Brewing
Epic had the best beers, but the venue wasn't good.
I'd move to SLC tomorrow if I could. Absolutely love it there. Have fun and report back.

+1 for White Horse. Really enjoyed that place, great food and atmosphere

I'll be there tomorrow for a long weekend. As others mentioned White Horse is good as is Lake Effect for drinks and small plates.
Valter's Osteria is good if you enjoy nice Italian, but pricey.

Red iguana is good food.
Beehive is a solid bar as someone stated earlier.
