Stopped by after hiking at Tunica Hills and had the boudin ball and fried chicken. Boudin Ball was bland and the crust was soggy. The fried chicken was over fried and plenty of salt, again very little in terms of spice.

I heard their boudin pizza is a best seller but they were out by the time we got there.

You are correct underwhelming...as is the main restaurant. But they do a hell of a business.

That's why you shouldn't get something that's been sitting under a light.

If you order anything off their actual menu, you'd be impressed. Burgers, brisket, pulled pork, all great. They also sell take and bake pizzas with different BBQ toppings that are incredible. I've never been there and left disappointed.

It was not as good as usual the last time I went, but I just chalked it up to Covid. I think it’s a understatement to say you’re not getting the best a restaurant has to offer right now. Especially a locally owned place like that that requires a good bit of labor to operate.

In normal times I like it for what it is. A good place to stop for lunch, beer, eye candy waitresses in a cool building.

ETA- I assumed you meant the restaurant

It's probably the best food in St Francisville.

Love the smokehouse but I don’t go there for fried things. I get the staples. Brisket, pulled pork or smoked half chicken. I had a steak and cheese sandwich the other day which was a special. It was just ok. Reminds me to stick to the things that got me there.

The restaurant is consistently very good to me in terms of service and quality. That’s all I can ask for if I’m not dropping 100 per person on the meal. I usually order an appetizer for my meal though. They also have a serviceable char grilled oyster which no one else Zachary or north has.

Went there about a month ago and they had signs posted to not come in if you were uncomfortable about catching covid

As someone who has enjoyed eating there quite a few times, that's not really saying anything

Good thing because their bbq is terrible. Their brisket is a dried out joke. The pork is undewhelming.

I’m a fan of their brisket and boudin. Why in the hell would you get fried chicken at a place like that?

Magnolia Cafe is solid, but 95% of people have no idea where its at, and Restaurant 1796 at the Myrtles Plantation is on par with Houmas House IMO, but thats a little more upscale. 1796 definitely has the best food, and its not close.

After that, there's Sonny's, a mexican restaurant, a Greek place, and a Chinese Place, then a couple fast food places.

The Francis reminded me of what Sammy's used to be. It's really good, but it's kind of on an island, not much to compare it with.

There used to be a Sammy's in St Francisville back in the day, but it must have been closed for a long time?

Not breaking news but the operating manager or partner or whatever he is considered, was the brains of Sammy's. Once he left, it went to shite. Apparently he was very hands on and required some work and after he left it turned into pretty bad standards in the kitchen.

I remember the old one in Zachary, before they built the new one across the road. I don’t remember one in St Francisville. I didn’t grow up there, but I’ve been traveling through since before I could walk.

Cotton’s was always my favorite growing up, (90% sure that’s where the Francis Smokehouse is now) their banana pudding was the best, and the Oxbow restaurant Was also good, both are gone now.
