I found the best Sushi in Baton Rouge...

It's at Koi. Sure they took 2 years to build the place, but it was worth it (on State St. next to Louis'). So far I've tried 5 rolls and they were all the freshest sushi I can remember. Also they do a really good fried rice.
The best part? It's affordable. The lady friend and I got 3 rolls and fried rice and it was around $22. The hand rolls are mostly under $5 and a big thing of chicken fried rice is $6.50.
I saw some inexpensive lunch specials on the menu too, but haven't tried one yet.
So get out there and give them some business. I may go try one of those lunch specials...

I work at lsu and have been waiting for this to open. Looking forward to trying it out. How big is it and what is the atmosphere? Also how are the signature rolls, there are alot of people on this board that are 'obsessed' with specialty rolls.

If anyone hasn't tired out the new placed on Sherwood, the sushi buffet, I would recommend checking it out.
The sushi isn't amazing, but I thought it was pretty good....10.99 for lunch and you can eat all the sushi you want.

Yeah that's it...
It really isn't bad at all...for 11 buck you can get all the sushi you want...probably had about 25 different types on the bar. The also have other types of entrees that were good to.

I think it was more for the dinner....maybe 16 bucks....
Still not a bad deak though IMO... like I said the sushi isn't amazing, but way better than I thought being an all you can eat type place.

Hey, it may not be spectacular, but if I can get a plate stacked high with sashimi for $16, Ill take it.
*we'll see if I feel the same way tonight, afterwards.

It's not big... maybe a dozen separate tables. They put booth seating along the walls to make it more modular for bigger or smaller groups. There's a nice little bar area up front, and a sushi bar at the back. The athmosphere is very "American" - mostly American waitstaff and ESPN on the TV's. It's comparable to Wahada because they share owners, but Koi is much better.
I haven't tried the signature rolls, only the old favorites: Cali, crunchy, Philly, snowcrab, and avacado. I just wanted to get a feel for how the basics compare to other joints in town - and they won me over. Next time I'll try some of the crazy stuff, but I like to ease into those.
Compared to Sushi Yama, it's a little more... unassuming, if that's an adjective I can use. Like I said, I haven't tried the complicated stuff yet. I'd like to hear what others think about the place.

Koi was very good, went today for a quick lunch snack. Got basic stuff but it was really nice. They also provided a halved mango after the meal, nice touch. They'll do fine as long as they keep doing what they are doing.

went to koi the other day and had a spider, rocknroll, tekamaki(plain tuna), snowcrab, dynamite, and the combo fried rice with 2 kirin pints. only 60 bucks, relatively inexpensive. snowcrab and spider are my favorites. the rocknroll has tempura shrimp for 12 while the spider has softshell crab for 6. the special rolls are 12 pieces to a roll. this place is a-ok
