Mathern's repurchasing Robert's Fresh Market location

Reported by TheAdvocate. Customers saw signs announcing that Mathern's was applying for alcohol permit at that location.

I am not tired of the winning. Their fried catfish is the best.

I’m sorry but nothing beats Robert’s deli and salad bar.

Their beef is outstanding also.

Yes, their beef was always good, and I always had good luck with their thick cut pork chops. Always liked the store, but it wasn't convenient to my location.

Must be happening fast -- the stock was like 30%+ cleared out last night.
Disappointing. I don't dislike Matherne's, but Robert has much better offerings as far as prepared foods and the bakery go. One of the best features of Robert is that they keep party trays already made in their cooler, so you don't have to go through the song and dance of ordering party trays like you do everywhere else. You can be on your way somewhere and grab a sandwich tray or meat pie tray pretty much 100% of the time.
Like someone else said, the have the best fried catfish as well.
I also will miss the Hebert's section. I wonder if Matherne's plans to negotiate to keep it.

Well dang. Don't love this news. Mathernes has higher prices across the board than Roberts.
Roberts usually has ground chuck on sale every couple of weeks for $3-4/lb. Mathernes, that same quality meat is on sale for $5/lb.
Choice steaks will be $10/lb at Roberts and $12/lb at Mathernes.
You also get New Orleans items at Roberts that you can't easily find elsewhere like Leidenheimer/Reising's and Randazzos king cakes.
I don't think Mathernes sells thin cut catfish in the deli. At least not at the one downtown.

I hate to see this…the meat and deli dept was great and ran really good sales…I also went for the heberts stuffed chickens… it has a much better selection and prices than Mathernes…. I’m not sure how the Mathernes on the LSU campus makes a profit other than beer on a home football game weekend…

I know for a fact the downtown store sells real catfish, not sure if qualifies as thin cut.
Robert's on the other hand, sells some non-descript fish in their deli.

Gotcha. Matherne's fried fish is good and they are the best plate lunch/deli downtown. I wouldn't call it thin cut though.
I'm not around Roberts at lunch time, so I can't speak for their deli. But the meat department and sales are better than what Mathernes has. The house made roast beef and smoked Cajun turkey deli meats are very very good.

They have it at Rouses. That's pretty damn easy considering they have them all over Baton Rouge.

I hope they bring back the catfish. I used to tear that shite up back in the day. Amazing

Their fresh sausage is really good too. Dang. I may need to see if they have any in stock today before it is switched over for good.

This is shitty news, that Highland spot is great.

Man that sucks if they are revamping the deli menu. They have one of the best in the city.

100%. It is my regular, almost every day grocery. Robert was definitely an upgrade from Matherne's. I'll still shop there regardless because it is so convenient for me though.

The Hebert’s meats section and fresh sausage section is still there for now. Just bought a bunch to freeze a little while ago.

Got excited when I saw Roberts had prime strip steak on sale. Got there and the butcher section is completely empty.

Sign on door says Mathernes takes over in early/mid March.
