Good friend of mine gave me this. He paid $1200 for it a few years ago. I used Barkeep’s Friend, high temp paint, and bought new cast iron grating. I scrubbed and painted the tents because the were starting to get rusty.
I fired it up, it reached 600 deg in about 5 mins. The cast iron grate was $100.

Nice job!

Grates are likely upside down.

Those grates are reversible.

Weber grates are made the same way.

I have the exact same one...Got it new but didn't pay $1200. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $750.00 (Natural gas) from Lowe's. One New Years eve I left it on over night and the grates split..I have had it for 12 years and still looks good.. Had a cover on it since new. Temp gauge works but gives wrong temp reading..

I sold my $1500 Weber Summit and got a Weber Kettle. Damn good decision, IMO.
Sometimes saving money is the right way to go.

Cannot beat a Weber kettle.
On my third one since circa 1994.
As much as I grill they tend to last about 10 years before they finally rot out. I do keep it under the porch, so no weathering, and of course the grates have to be replaced once or twice, but for the cost, and the versatility to grill or smoke, it is a good bargain as long as you are not trying to cook large quantities.
