My Redi Check remote BBQ thermometer finally bit the dust after decades. Replacements?

After serving me well for a couple of decades, I'm retiring my Redi Check thermometer. I thought I'd put a shout out to see what this board prefers and what's out there. It needs a food probe, a BBQ thermometer and a remote device displaying the temp. Doesn't need to be long range.

TIA

I wish I could recommend MEATER but mine broke with a few months. Pissed me off.

Mine has not broken after 2 years, but now I just jinxed it. It is a good one, range is great. The probe is super thick which limits some uses, but as far as I know it is accurate. The app tries to calculate cook time remaining based on target temp, and that is off a lot sometimes - but I can't blame the app because the way I cook with wood logs only is inconsistent by nature.

I’ve had wireless ones like iGrill that I used for a while and it’s nice to be able to monitor it my phone, but I’ve had a cheap Taylor one that just will not die. Very accurate too. Probably had it close to 30 years. I’ve wondered if the new ones are as dependable.

Less than 20 bucks

Thermoworks Smoke is good, however I would go with the Signals if you can spare the extra cash $239, The wi-fi means you can check it from anywhere on your phone and it will send you alarms if temps get outside parameters you set. Also you can monitor 3 meats at once. Great for doing multiple items at once.

The Mavericks are still priced well and if you like it and got 10+ years, I'd just buy it again. You can probably save a few bucks with a wireless Thermopro, I really like thier folding version that sells for less than $20, and can't really tell it apart from my $100+ Thermapen.

I've had one for 5+ years and it works fine.

What's the downside to bluetooth?

range mostly. There is a reason Meater made it possible to setup a secondary device to extend the range via bluetooth and then wifi.

I killed my meater at 525 degrees btw.

Downside of the meater from their website
quote:

The maximum temperature the ambient tip of the MEATER Plus probes can withstand is 527°F (275°C)?.

The maximum temperature the internal temperature sensor can withstand is 212°F (100°C).

MEATER

Meater's shitty bluetooth only setup irks me. I shouldn't need an additional device (another phone or tablet) that stays near my pit to be able to monitor my temps from my phone. Otherwise, Meater would be an excellent thermometer.

I like the simplicity of the Redi Check / Maverick style. I don't have to pull up an app. I just look at the monitor and the temp is there. It also doesn't kill my phone's battery.
