Don Pedigo's place ... great steaks they were..
In the begining he was serving them free on Saturdays.

we also use to go get a woody's burger on greenwell springs road. then we would "go out" to eat at wesley's pizza in the shopping center at sullivan and greenwell springs.

Yep. I used to get my hair cut next door when I was a kid by Rod Couvillion who was a bookie/barber/ladies man. Had a back room with Playboy. Used to make all his bets while he was cutting your hair in French.

Sitting in the chair one time he was argueing with his girlfriend on the phone and we heard a gunshot. He hauled arse thinking she had killed herself with my hair half cut. The other dude finished it and about 20 minutes later Rod showed back up all pissed because she had just shot a hole through the ceiling while telling him she was going to kill herself. Funny as shite. I remember going next door with him and my dad after that and them drinking beer and we ate chopped beef po boys or hoagies or poor boys or Baton Rouge long sandwiches.

I remember when Ruby's was under the overpass where George's is now then they moved off College Drive in that restaurant graveyard that closed them and Phils as well as another that I can't remember.

Joe'D's fried chicken baton rouge long sandwich was killer.

They also had, on Friday's only the best egg salad sandwich on white bread packed in a wax paper sandwich bag for .25. The same with their pimento cheese.

Hell I remember the Rebel Drive in that was where Superior Grill is today. That was a movie drive in for those that don't remember.

Since someone already brought up DiNardo's - and back in the day it was Gus's and Highland House before that.

Black Eyed Pea near Cortana - where I was introduced to chicken fried steak (wah?!).

Silver Moon Cafe on Brightside.

Mamacita's on Bluebonnet at Perkins.

Trinity's on Perkins under the overpass then Bluebonnet - too short lived.

Desiree's downtown - good riddance. Sometimes bad people do get what's coming to them.

Shings on Government with those horrible commercials.

And who could forget Chalet Brandt?

Po Folks on Airline - my mom used to take us there every Sunday after church

Cock of the Walk (on Bluebonnet)? - flipped cornbread in little cast iron skillets

Steak and Ale on Florida - my best friend in high school worked there, and I lived off their bread and salads

Mexican restaurant on Florida (Chi Chi's?)

I haven't lived in Baton Rouge in 15 years, but I think these are all gone.
