That’s because pellets are leftover trash from other wood processing. Get yourself a real wood smoker and you will easily be able to tell the difference

If you can't taste the difference between mesquite and cherry for example, you might have covid

That's why I just get the blends that go with everything. Don't have time to swap out pellets

Pellets don’t put a ton of smoke into meat, but still you should be able to taste a big difference in something strong like mesquite vs a fruit tree wood. You won’t taste much difference if you are just trying stuff like apple vs cherry.

I don’t think they would hurt, but it’s a marketing ploy. Everything has to be so damn fancy now. Nothing wrong with good food done right.

I'm smoking a pork shoulder for weeknight supper, not a cooking competition.

Mesquite is easy to tell because it is overpowering and it burns to fast for a good low and slow cook anyhow.

For the majority of the woods if people tell you they taste the difference between one and the other they are full of shite.

I use B&B championship blend from Academy because it is clean and cheap. You can get a 100% whatever wood, you won't tell the difference if it is pellet form or chunks of wood.

I’ve actually never smoked overnight. Would be fun though.

Now waking up at 4 am is a different story…

I've used pellet smokers for almost 15 years, tried about every brand of pellet out there. I can tell NO difference between any of them. Now, I just make sure they are 100% hardwood and not mixed with a filler.

I can’t tell a difference. I am curious about those charcoal pellets though.

Yes I can, but it all depends on what temp you are smoking in.
