Throw it out or reheat?
Posted on 11/10/19 at 7:17 am to LSU0358
I’ll get downvoted for this, but I say reheat and eat.
Unless you left that out since yesterday afternoon or it was really hot in your house, I don’t see a problem. Left on the stove/counter overnight in a 68-70F home? Eat it.
I’ve eaten many meals I left out overnight and never had an issue. But those who’ve had food poisoning will tell you it’s so awful it ain’t worth the risk.

I eat just about anything by the smell test but beans are the exception.
I’d ditch them.
I’d ditch them.

As much as I hate to say it, I’m leaning towards chunking them. They were delicious, but not worth losing 10 lbs the bad way.

Make another pot. Beans are cheap.

What were y'all drinking?
A couple of beers in 1st Qtr, and then A 2013 California Cab (and it was excellent) starting at half time. The last glass I had to have in celebration from the second bottle is what caused the food to be left out...
Oh and I had help on the wine...50/50 with my wife.

Four hours in the danger zone (40-140 F) and the science says throw it out. We all hate wasting food, but one trip to the ER will wipe out any money saved times 10,000.
Not to mention Salmonella, Ecoli and Botulism (most likely in this scenario) can kill you or more importantly your loved ones.
But hey... do what you want. Don’t take my word for it. I’ve only been working with the world’s foremost food science and safety professionals for 25 years.

Oh I chunked it. Since my last round of food poisoning 6 years ago expired and left out food gets trashed. Red beans and rice are so good the second day though...

And I got 6 downvotes for suggesting to throw it out. Haha!

I ate some spaghetti that had been left out overnight and it was the worst 1-2 days of my life. I don’t trust anything over a couple of hours anymore.

His assessment is right. You gardenhose out of both ends just ONE time and you'll never eat improperly handled food again.

I've eaten much, much worse than that.

If you’ve ever had food poisoning you wouldn’t even ask. I always measure it by is it worth food poisoning to save $10-$20 or whatever.

After getting food poisoning from some chicken wings about 20 years ago, I always tell myself “within doubt, throw it out.”
So yeah I’d cut your losses, not worth the risk.

Eat it. Just bring back to a boil for a few min.
