What's the best way to heat frozen chicken and sausage jambalaya? I have a one gallon freezer ziploc bag full...

I'd put in a covered pan in the oven. Sprinkle a few tablespoons of water on top and seal tightly. Don't stir.
ETA: since it's frozen in a bag, maybe you could take it out of the plastic, wrap it tightly with foil and seal well. Do add a small bit of water.

I usually re-heat jambalaya in a skillet, stovetop, with a 'lil bit of stock. It's really great if you let the bottom crisp up a little...

I have an idea. For the record, I have never tried it.
Try steaming it in a double steamer (pot of water on bottom, food on top). Just put a touch of water in the bottom pot. Every few minutes, open and stir. Add a little water if necessary. When heated through, drop it in the very little bit of water and toss it.
It worked in my head.

Add a touch of moisture, cover tightly and put in a 180 degree oven til warm. We have a warming oven at work and for most things it is the best way to reheat something. I have now started doing this at home if I have time.

I'd let it defrost. They nuke it in a bowl with a wet paper towel over it. Top it with a fried egg...golden.

I've had reheated frozen jambalaya only once. It was nasty.

If it is sealed I would just put the whole bag in a pot of simmering water and let it thaw and reheat.

It must have been nasty to start with. I find jambalaya freezes well and heats up fine in the microwave. OTOH, I hate reheated chicken, steak, and other meats prepared as standalone items. There's just no good way to reheat them. I'll eat them cold or sometimes let them come to room temperature.

I do it fairly often.... microwave is fine after it thaws, but the best way to do it is to heat some chicken stock in a pot then add the jam to it... cover on low... stir occassionally until its warm enough to eat.

What RichJ said. I enjoy that little bit of crisp

Then somebody was doing it wrong, because jambalaya freezes remarkably well

quote:Agreed. I've never done anything special to heat up frozen jambalaya. Always just microwaved it and it comes out good.
