I'm doing some pulled chicken tacos on a smoker and will also be grilling some flank steak fajita meat for a party of about 60 people. I know that 1 lb of steak makes about 8 tacos.

Should I just plan on making a 1/4 lb of each (chicken and beef) per person? So 15 lbs total of each meat? Or should I split and make 7.5 lbs beef and 7.5 lbs chicken? Or somewhere in between?

I hate to run out of food. I’d do an extra five lbs. You can always repurpose the leftovers. It also depends what type of sides, baw vs female ratio, etc. I’d do chicken and beef in case someone doesn’t like beef only.

If it's all adults and assuming this is the main meal, I'd plan for an average of 1.5 of each taco per person, so 90 tacos of each. Having leftover is better than not enough.

60 people? Goto Costco and get some of their rotisserie pulled chicken.

It does depend on how many other items are on offer. Heavy dips & lots of chips like guacamole, layered taco dip, bean dips, corn/bean salsa, etc, plus sides like beans, rice, and a veg or salad, I'd think that 1.5 per person is probably plenty. Not many dips and no sides? Def 2 to 2.5 per person.

I cooked 6lbs of ground meat tacos for 15 people recently (6 of which were kids), and it wound up being the perfect amount. That equates to 1/4 pound of meat per person. I would up it to 6oz per person for adults only, but this should give you a good ballpark range

Thanks for the feedback! That helps. There will be some sides available so I think planning 1.75 tacos/person on average will be the way to go.

Yeah, OP, what is your baw to female ratio?

Just ran the baw:female calculations based on the RSVP list...we're looking at a 5:7 ratio...which is acceptable IMO.

Precisely. If you're the kind of baw that likes two tortillas wrapped around his meat...you're in luck!

Put a brisket on the smoker because it makes excellent pulled tacos and goes a long way.
