The one near campus & Fatima. It closed in June 2024 due to rising food costs and not bringing in enough customers to pay the bills. Seems to be a common theme these days in the restaurant industry. New owner is a very well-established restaurateur in the area. Not sure if he will keep the same GP menu items or incorporate his own food and change the business name. Interior dining area has been remodeled, and news should be released once everything is ready to go.

I grew up eating at the GP on David Drive in Metairie which is currently a concrete slab and never rebuilt after the fire in 2023. I occasionally run into the GP founder and inquired about the pewter mugs no longer being used. He confirmed that pewter mug prices have quadrupled over the years, his original supplier went out of business, and 2-3 dozen mugs were being stolen each week. Therefore, he switched to plastic cups that were paid for by the soft drink vending company.

Rumor has it that the building was purchased by the owners of Olde Tyme.

They needed to season the meat, it was pretty bland and nothing special. The Flounder sandwich was the best thing on the menu IMO. It was an old tradition in the 70's and 80's, and the decor fit the bill. Locals and Cajun fans kept it going for all those years. Not sure how the revamp will play out ?

If anyone can turn it around, Ross can. Great luck to him he's a great guy ! We'll be supporting them when they open.

I haven’t eaten there in like a decade.

Talking about old places… has anyone place had a bigger drop off than Pete’s? Used to be a great burger there and totally went to shite. It’s been a few years since I last tried but it was horrible. About 10-20 years ago it was very good.

I'm with you, it's absolute garbage. Taste like frozen meat from Wal Mart. They have nothing on the menu any longer, other than flatbread pizza and few other odd things. The BIg Pete back it the day was legit. They also had the best damn onion rings around. It's a complete waste of money and I wouldn't recommend anyone waste their time or money there. It's not the same old Pete's of old sorry to say !

I haven't eaten at Pete's in ages. No clue on the current taste. Surprised it went to shite since it's owned by the same restaurant group that runs Social, Charley G's, Tap Room, Marcellos.

Have LEGIT burgers, no reason they can't do the same at Pete's. Why don't they is the question? CG's onion rings are great as well, Pete's not so much.

I never like the ground pati. Every time I ordered a burger it wasn't hot enough to melt the 3 pounds of shredded cheese they put on it. The fries were also always cold.

It was all downhill after they got rid of the pewter mugs.

Dingy Pete’s was the best. Went there with the team after many a baseball game as a kid. It’s absolute trash now, such a shame.

I preferred the Kaliste Saloom location. I wore out the Johnson one back in the USL days but they fell off. I guess the Kaliste Saloom one was a little different. The 3lbs of unmelted cheese was one of the things I liked. It held the mayo I would layer on from the bottle on the table

Edited for Rogue

Why are you doing this? Is Kaliste Saloom so hard to spell out?

Have you been to toasted yolk yet? I have been looking for a decent club sandwich in that area. I am tired of driving all the way to Oakbourne for a sandwich.

Negative, and I’m being petty and boycotting them. When the wife n kid would be busy for dinner I would sometimes go indulge at that Ground Patty with out judgment of my mayo use. I showed up one night to a sign saying they were closed permanently without warning. I was mad then sad and vowed to never go to the toasted yok

Sorta kidding, I may go one day but the wound is still too fresh
