Tuna Steak Recipe

I have 2 nice yellowfin tuna steaks. How would you cook them?
I normally fry freshwater fish and grill redfish and snapper. This is a new fish to me.
Thanks.

Tuna cooks a lot like beef in my opinion. Season the steaks like you would a beef steak. I keep it simple with just salt and pepper. You want to sear them on a grill or a cast iron skillet.
Be careful to not overcook them. They get to temp fast.

Exactly what I do.. simple and easy, maybe add a little soy sauce

As others said very simple.
Salt and pepper
I like to super high heat in cast iron to seat outside and leave the middle raw.
Little lemon to finish. Good tuna speaks for itself. Doesn’t need lot of fuss

OK, that's three of us using the same basic recipe. I grill mine and get my grill very hot. I will lightly oil the tuna steak with just a little olive oil and season them. The oil really helps the tuna to not stick to the grill grates.
All I do is give a good sear on each side and pull them off. I never cook tuna to more than medium rare. Cook it until well done and you may as well open a can of tuna and eat that since it will be dry and flaky.

Thank y'all. I been seeing a lot about marinades online. Guess I will skip that.

Good move. Like the poster said, let the tuna speak for itself. And don't overcook it!
If you want different flavors make a couple of salsas or sauces that can be used as toppers. Diced mango, tomato, red onion and cilantro make a good one.

Salt + pepper. 1 or 2 minutes (depending on thickness) per side on my sear burner.

Eat it raw.
Get a nice pepper and sesame seed crust on it and just slice it up. Serve nice and cold.
Get some wasabi or soy sauce to dip it in.

I just do salt and pepper
Key is to let it sit out a couple hours before searing. Let it get near room temp so you get a nice sear on outside but inside isnt cold. Maybe 30-60 second sear per side

That may be good but I still want to cook it a bit.
I am going to coat it with some olive oil, salt, pepper and sesame seeds. Grill it till it forms a crust on each side while keeping the inside rare. We will see how it goes.

Dill is popular with tuna and it makes for an interesting combination.

Thanks. Very happy with it. I did it on the grill. 2 mins on each side.

Look up a recipe for a ginger, balsamic, and lime reduction. Very light drizzle of that when you plate it.

I’m sure you will go with the steak ideas as it is the classic but I like something different. It’s Asian nachos. Get wonton chips, grill the tuna medium add slaw mix and any other Asian veggies. Toss with soy sauce and top with yum yum and/or a wasabi Mayo (easy to make). Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Add sautéed shrimp for some extra meat and enjoy

I hear ya. But about 30 yrs ago we were filleting tuna on the dock after a day on the water.
I was handed a slice right there as were bagging it up and haven’t looked back.
Raw tuna is incredibly good. Just give it a try. Drag it some soy sauce if you need some flavor.

I used to season with lime juice, cumin, garlic, salt & pepper and maybe a little pepper flake. Grill for a hot second, then serve with pico and guac. Delicious
